Jesus' Encounter With Culture As Evidenced By The Gospel According To Mark, K T. Joykutty May 1977

Jesus' Encounter With Culture As Evidenced By The Gospel According To Mark, K T. Joykutty

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "The shackles of sin seem to be overpowering mankind at a much higher potential and speed than the challenge of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The dynamic truth of the Gospel which is Jesus Christ Himself, is alarmingly unwelcome in the midst of a highly technologically and materially advanced society. Man is becoming stubbornly impervious to the truth of the Gospel, and is subdued by the potent fetters of a social giant called "Culture." Christians and Christian organizations are no exceptions. The subtle secular culture has surreptitiously found its way into the Christian community. Christian organizations …

The Contribution Of Katherine Luther To The Homelife And Ministry Of Her Husband Martin, David A. Vander Does May 1977

The Contribution Of Katherine Luther To The Homelife And Ministry Of Her Husband Martin, David A. Vander Does

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Katherine von Bora Luther does not command a great deal of space in any Church History textbook. What is known about her life is in connection with that of her husband and Reformer Martin Luther. Katherine Luther stands in the shadow of her great husband Martin but it was possible to catch a glimpse of her character and contribution to the homelife and ministry of her husband Martin.

Toward A Theological Understanding Of The Psychological Implications Accompanying Death, Ralph Wentzel Mar 1977

Toward A Theological Understanding Of The Psychological Implications Accompanying Death, Ralph Wentzel

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This thesis is an attempt not only to understand the bereavement and grief of loved ones who are left behind, but it is also an uncompromising work depicting the reality of death and the pressing needs that arise when it is imminent, needs that are unique to every individual and that must be treated as such. As a Christian, I hope to convey thoughts that will relate to the personal needs of both the bereaved and to the suffering and dying patient. It is hoped that this paper will help the pastor to realize that he is not the "living" …

Paul's Principals Of Counseling In First And Second Timothy: The Search For A Biblical View Of Counseling, Robert Gaiser Feb 1977

Paul's Principals Of Counseling In First And Second Timothy: The Search For A Biblical View Of Counseling, Robert Gaiser

Master of Divinity Thesis

Thus this paper seeks to define a balanced position between psychology and theology and between secular counseling and counseling by those with theological training. This is done in a general overview. But going beyond the definition of these terms and the relationship of theology to psychology, the author seeks to set forth some counseling methods or terms that Paul uses in his two letters to Timothy. The purpose of this paper is to set forth these principals to aid us in the area of pastoral counseling.

Holy Spirit In The Now - Iii, Oral Roberts Jan 1977

Holy Spirit In The Now - Iii, Oral Roberts

Holy Spirit In the Now

From the Introduction by Oral Roberts:

"This study on the Holy Spirit In The Now comes out of my personal experience and over 30 years of prayer and study of the Word.

It was through the generosity of my good friend, the late J. Arthur Rank, outstanding British businessman, member of the Parliament, and Methodist layman, that the Oral Roberts University’s first endowed academic chair on the Holy Spirt was established in the fall of 1972.

Because of his great interest in the Holy Spirit, Lord Rank determined to establish this chair at ORU. However, on the day he was …

The Vanguard [Vol. 24, No. 3], Spring 1977, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

This is the disturbing phrase that sticks in my mind from a late evening session of the annual meeting of the National Indian Lutheran Board (NILB) at Tempe, Arizona, February 25. These words came from NILB's director, Eugene Crawford, after we had heard first-hand reports from two young Indian men - Russell Peters of Massachusetts and Roger Gabriel of Maine.

The Vanguard (Vol. 24, No. 10), Dec 1977, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

Lutherans in the United States and Canada quickly voiced strong criticism of the Republic of South Africa's October 19 bannings and arrests of black leaders.

Several Lutheran leaders issued statements condemning the repressive actions (see page 2 for excerpts).
