Thomas Chalmers, The Walther Of Scotland, F. R. Webber
Thomas Chalmers, The Walther Of Scotland, F. R. Webber
Concordia Theological Monthly
The year 1947 marks the centennial of the death of Dr. Thomas Chalmers, perhaps the greatest man that Scotland ever produced. His life and his conflict with a corrupt State Church offer many striking parallels with that of Dr. Walther of our own Synod. Moreover, religious conditions in Scotland a little over a century ago were of such a nature that one needs only to change names and a few details in order to have a picture of religious conditions in Germany just before the Saxon emigration to America.

Religion And The Adolescent Personality, Robert E. Meier
Religion And The Adolescent Personality, Robert E. Meier
Bachelor of Divinity
In an attempt to gain a clearer picture of adolescent personality, psychologists and psychoanalists, counselors and pastors have concerned themselves very much with this problem. Adolescence is a culmination of many things that have gone before, and its effects will continue in later life. Adolescence is not a life by itself, but a stage in a total life! Therefore, the events and happenings of adolescence cannot be cut off from the total life.
The Melanchthonian Blight, Richard Craemerer
The Melanchthonian Blight, Richard Craemerer
Concordia Theological Monthly
Luther's Reformation was a movement of truly spiritual vitality. He restored to light some of the most powerful impulses of the Christian religion - salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the royal priesthood of all believers, the divinity of the Christian calling. Somewhere around 1525, however, this vitality seems to wane. The German princes begin to dominate in the Lutheran movement, and they retain most of the pagan characteristics of their contemporaries. Theologians expend their best efforts in many decades of acrimonious controversy. The German people lag behind their neighbors in cultural and political progress, almost succumb to …

Sermon Study On Micah 7:14-20, Th. Laetsch
Sermon Study On Micah 7:14-20, Th. Laetsch
Concordia Theological Monthly
The year 1947 is the Centennial year of the organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. The concluding verses of the Book of Micah are a very suitable text for Trinity Sunday in this Centennial year. The Epistle Lesson appointed by the ancient Church for this Sunday speaks of the unsearchable wisdom and the unfathomable judgments of God relating to His plan of salvation, while the Gospel tells us of regeneration and justification by faith as the only way to eternal life. In like manner Micah calls our attention to the marvelous things that God …

The History Of Puritanism From King James I To William And Mary, Weldon Luther Priebe
Bachelor of Divinity
In the whole terminology of' history there are few words more difficult to define than "Puritan”, for it was never used by contemporaries with precisely the same significance, and it has denoted very different qualities at different epochs. It is a word that has borne so many doctrinal, dogmatic, political, and administrative, social meanings in the course of the past four centuries that it is hardly possible to present one definition acceptable to all.
An Investigation Into The Effectiveness Of Preaching For The Purpose Of Teaching Christian Doctrine, Martin Brauer
An Investigation Into The Effectiveness Of Preaching For The Purpose Of Teaching Christian Doctrine, Martin Brauer
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
This thesis is "An Investigation of the Effectiveness of Preaching for the Purpose of Teaching Christian Doctrine." By Christian Doctrine we mean everything that the Bible tells us about God, His nature, His work and His attitude toward man, and everything that the Bible tells us about the origin, purpose, and destiny of man, his nature, and his relationship to God. Men and God are the great theme of Scripture. Everything that the Bible says can some way or another be fitted under this theme.

Concordia Theological Monthly
As in the distance the summits of 1947 become faintly visible, there are two topics which we should like to discuss with our readers, one dark and distressing, the other a cause for joy and gratitude - the physical and spiritual misery that grips the world, and the centennial of the Missouri Synod.
