Jesus Christ According To The Koran, John Gall May 1948

Jesus Christ According To The Koran, John Gall

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

There are twenty-five passages in the Koran, the holy book of the Mohammedans, in which the name "Jesus" appears. When perusing these passages one cannot help but be struck by the question, "What were the Koran's sources? Where did Mohammed get his knowledge of Jesus?" To answer these questions accurately has been the ambition of Islamic scholars for many years.

The Protestant Christian Church In The U.S.A. Meeting The Challenge Of Our Times Through Parish Evangelism, Ronald A. Mueller Apr 1948

The Protestant Christian Church In The U.S.A. Meeting The Challenge Of Our Times Through Parish Evangelism, Ronald A. Mueller

Bachelor of Divinity

Originally this study had been intended to take the form of a training course for lay evangelism. Upon further consideration and research it became evident that this would be putting both pastor and people into a rigid pattern that would not fit in all cases. The work of the church differs from place to place, and the way in which the church’s mission can be carried out will not always be the same. Therefore, this study will consider material pertinent to the forming of principles upon which the work is to be done and by which workers are to be …

John Chrysostom, The Preacher, John H. Fritz Apr 1948

John Chrysostom, The Preacher, John H. Fritz

Concordia Theological Monthly

John Chrysostom - the name Chrysostom, the golden mouth, was given him by the Church because of his oratorical ability. He has been known by that name since the seventh century. He was born of noble parentage at Antioch, Syria, on the river Orontes, in 347 A. D. Antioch, Alexandria, Constantinople, and Rome were outstanding cities in those days. Antioch was one of the most splendid cities in the Roman Empire. It had a population of two hundred thousand. Though half of the inhabitants were nominally Christians, their Christianity varied from severe asceticism to almost pagan laxity.

The Most Important Social Problem Of New Testament Times Slavery, E. C. Malte Jan 1948

The Most Important Social Problem Of New Testament Times Slavery, E. C. Malte

Concordia Theological Monthly

His letters to the Ephesians and Colossians contain explicit rules for the conduct of slaves and masters. Living in a society in which it is estimated that more than half of the population belonged to the slave class, it is little wonder that Paul often uses this word and its antonym, free man.

Youth Work In A Rural Church, Verna Gertrude Palmer Jan 1948

Youth Work In A Rural Church, Verna Gertrude Palmer

Master's Theses

Youth work has been an important part of the activity of churches. Most of the studies about it and most of the programs for young people, however, seem to concern town and city churches more than rural churches.

It is my purpose in this paper to present a study of the work that is being done with and for young people in rural churches in Virginia. First a survey will be made of conditions which contribute to the problems of youth work in rural churches in general. Then the youth activities and problems of churches in Virginia will be considered. …

The Psychology Of Religious Edification As Applied To Children, Hazel Alta Oliver Jan 1948

The Psychology Of Religious Edification As Applied To Children, Hazel Alta Oliver

Graduate Thesis Collection

This dissertation is important for all Christians and especially for teachers in Bible School. It is not a theological study aiming to tell how to prepare souls for a world to come,-- though it does that incidentally, nor in that it adopts its premises from revelation. But it is theological insofar as it unifies all of religious education in one objective, purpose, goal or ideal. It is philosophical in the same sense, that it unifies all of religious education in one objective. It aims to simplify all the efforts of religious education which we here call edification of the saints, …

Records in this group are organized by record group and then state or territory and year. Collection organization varies very little throughout the collection, however, prior to 1921, general correspondence was organized by location. Starting with Director Hughes, general correspondence was placed as its own subgroup within the collection and is organized alphabetically. Please go to Ask An Archivist if you …

A Community Study Of Social Change In Goshen, Clark S. Knowlton Jan 1948

A Community Study Of Social Change In Goshen, Clark S. Knowlton

Theses and Dissertations

During the last two years, the author in the course of fulfilling class requirements in the Department of Sociology made a series of investigations into the social, economic, and political aspects of several towns and villages in Utah and Idaho. As a result, an interest developed in the process of social change within the social structure. Therefore, as a thesis problem, a community study of a small Mormon village analyzing social change in the institutions and mores was selected.

Religion And The Modern World Picture, Theodore Graebner Dec 1947

Religion And The Modern World Picture, Theodore Graebner

Concordia Theological Monthly

The scientific world picture has undergone greater changes in the past forty years than in the preceding four centuries. For one thing, the materialistic view which controlled the study of the cosmos has crashed. But that is not all. To adapt our idea of the physical world to the demands of reason "requires of scientific thought one of the greatest changes in orientation which it has ever had to make in its secular effort." The words are those of Louis de Broglie in the volume announced (p. 261).

The Blessed Results Of Justification, H. J. Bouman Sep 1947

The Blessed Results Of Justification, H. J. Bouman

Concordia Theological Monthly

In human affairs the results often are not in proportion to the preparations. There the old saying "The mountain labors and brings forth a ridiculous mouse" is frequently true. It is never thus in divine affairs. There the results always are commensurate with preparations, even though our limited vision and understanding fails to see it. Let us remember this as we study the blessed results of justification according to Rom. 5:1-5.
