Marxist Humanism In Dialogue With Christianity, Richard Lischer Nov 1968

Marxist Humanism In Dialogue With Christianity, Richard Lischer

Master of Divinity Thesis

In this paper I will attempt to follow Garaudy's suggestion, mentioned above, and retain my own Christian perspective. With that factor in mind, plus an obvious limitation of space, much of the Christian doctrine of man will be presupposed.as I investigate Marxist humanism. The goal of this paper is not the isolation of two humanistic concerns but the description and analysis of their intersection.

St. Paul's Ideology For The Urbanized Roman Empire, Saul Levin Oct 1968

St. Paul's Ideology For The Urbanized Roman Empire, Saul Levin

Concordia Theological Monthly

No one is likely to equal the sensation which Gibbon produced with the 15th and 16th chapters of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, where he viewed the rise of Christianity from the perspective of secular history. While he adhered on the surface to a pious, naive, and conventional veneration of the early church, at the same time he pierced the aura of holiness and taught his readers-in the name of philosophy-to understand religious movements realistically. It is unnecessary for us now to review the human causes which an 18th-century historian found for the success of Christianity.

The Day Of The Lord, Ralph W. Klein Sep 1968

The Day Of The Lord, Ralph W. Klein

Concordia Theological Monthly

What does it mean for Yahweh to have a day? Sigmund Mowinckel saw it as a day of manifestation or epiphany at the New Year's festival, including the celebration of Yahweh's kingship and His saving acts for His people. The eschatological day of Yahweh is only the final and supreme day of Yahweh's enthronement, entirely secondary to His cult day.

A Topical Sermon, Andrew Weyermann Sep 1968

A Topical Sermon, Andrew Weyermann

Concordia Theological Monthly

The sermon in this issue calls attention to the possibility of dealing with very specific and even rather difficult subjects from the pulpit. It is not necessary for sermons to restrict themselves to generalities, and it is possible for preachers to build on, rather than continually repeat, the “foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God." (Heb. 6:1)

The Theology Of Carl F. H. Henry, Richard Warneck Jun 1968

The Theology Of Carl F. H. Henry, Richard Warneck

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The issues raised by these and related questions have held the attention of serious theologians for several decades. Carl Henry is vigorously interested in the treatment of special revelation by various schools of contemporary theology, and the following chapter will represent his evaluation of the same. At this juncture, our endeavor is to state precisely Henry's theology of the Scriptures and special revelation. A clear understanding of Henry's position in this regard will be necessary for a fair appraisal of his major concerns as he addresses them to modern man in behalf of the Christian faith.

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The scope of this study comprises first of all a brief examination of past approaches of the church to youth, followed by an analysis of the single young adult according to his world, needs, self-perception, problems, attitudes, and requests. The Spirit Of Man: The Subject As Seen By Theologians, George W. Hoyer May 1968

The Spirit Of Man: The Subject As Seen By Theologians, George W. Hoyer

Concordia Theological Monthly

The National Catholic Reporter, which, like jokes about the Model T, is doing more to sell its product than the reverent sober sell could ever hope to do, has a column on the front page called "Cry Pax." Just to look at the title is to rejoice in the spirit of man. There's the feel of "A plague o' both your houses!" the sobering sound, "Peace, peace when there is no peace!” and at the same time the sense of the kiss of peace, or the Pax Domini, "The peace of the Lord be with you always," to which the …

A Comparative Study Of Koinonia And The Motivations For Evangelical Ecumenicity, Howard William Hornby May 1968

A Comparative Study Of Koinonia And The Motivations For Evangelical Ecumenicity, Howard William Hornby

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The constant use of the term "fellowship" as related to the concept of visible unity in the evangelical movement raised some questions as to the relationship of one to the other. The researcher wanted to obtain a thorough understanding of koinonia or fellowship as it was found in the Bible.

This concept of fellowship was then to be related to the motivating factors of evangelical ecumenism. It was the desire of the researcher to find if the concept of koinonia as it related to the concepts of the evangelicals to unite were compatible.
