The Christian World View And The New Era In Science, August C. Rehwaldt Jan 1969

The Christian World View And The New Era In Science, August C. Rehwaldt

Concordia Theological Monthly

The present article will concern itself chiefly with man's mastery over nature by means of the intellectual capacities which God has so lavishly bestowed on him and which God preserves even today, even though man has not fulfilled the intentions of God for the created world. It will also show that the vitiation of God's intentions and purposes for man and the created world is in the process of being resolved even now.

Improving Sunday School Teaching With Audio-Visual Use, Won He Lee

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Someone estimated that America has 98 per cent of the world' s radios and 99.4 per cent of its televisions. 1 According to a study, the American family has the television receiver turned on thirty-four hours each week. The more surprising fact was that the families who spend the most time with television are the families who have had their sets the longest. 2 A survey of the Notion Pictures Association of America showed that the average high school graduate in this country has seen 500 films and watched 15,000 hours of television. Considering the fact that he has spent …

The Development Of The Juvenile Instructor Under George Q. Cannon And Its Functions In Latter-Day Saint Religious Education, Lawrence R. Flake Jan 1969

The Development Of The Juvenile Instructor Under George Q. Cannon And Its Functions In Latter-Day Saint Religious Education, Lawrence R. Flake

Theses and Dissertations

The success of the Juvenile Instructor magazine, called the Instructor since 1929, owes much to the vision and foresight of its great founder, George Quale Cannon. From a small, crude, four-page paper, first published in 1866, the Juvenile Instructor has developed into a far-reaching and attractive publication, touching the lives of countless thousands in 1969. It has proved to be a great implement of religious education to the Latter-day Saint people and fulfilled four important functions in its early years when Elder Cannon was its editor. It served as the official organ of the Sunday Schools, as a voice of …

A Comparative Investigation Of The Differing Responses To The Good News Of The Gospel Among The Highland And Jungle Quechua Indians Of Ecuador, William Richard Lemon Jan 1969

A Comparative Investigation Of The Differing Responses To The Good News Of The Gospel Among The Highland And Jungle Quechua Indians Of Ecuador, William Richard Lemon

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Why does the Good News of the Gospel find greater response in some areas of the world than it does in other areas - even where there is a fairly close relationship geographically and culturally? This is one of the problems that the evangelical church is facing in some areas of Ecuador today. After many years of labor in some areas there has been little fruit, while in others there has been an abundant harvest - even to the amazement of some of the missionaries involved. It is the purpose of this project and report to investigate this paradox to …

Civic Order, Martin H. Scharlemann Dec 1968

Civic Order, Martin H. Scharlemann

Concordia Theological Monthly

Order is a gift. It may not be taken for granted. The tensions inherent in every social situation tend toward disruption unless they are harnessed toward creative ends.

Violence on our streets and in our cities has brought us up short to the realization that the social order is much like a garden: if left untended, it will produce only the weeds of exploitation, decay, frustration, and outrage. During some of the riots in our major cities we watched our television sea in sheer disbelief that this evil could erupt in our midst. Somehow we assumed that such things could …

E. L. Mascall's Interpretation Of The Thomistic Doctrine Of Analogy In Relation To Charles Hartshorne's Doctrine Of Analogy And Religious Language, William Bersley

Bachelor of Divinity

This paper proposes to examine the logic of analogy as a form of religious discourse in the writings of Eric Lionel Mascall and Charles Hartshorne. The problem is to exhibit the response of these men to the question: In what way and to what degree is discourse about God analogical?

The Reforming Role Of Religious Communities In The History Of Western Christianity, Carl Volz Nov 1968

The Reforming Role Of Religious Communities In The History Of Western Christianity, Carl Volz

Concordia Theological Monthly

Reformed Christians have traditionally been suspicious of, if not viscerally opposed to, one ancient institution of Christianity - monasticism. Ever since the upheavals of the 16th century most non-Roman Catholics in the West have been content to view the monks as being psychological eccentrics at best, or the spiritual heirs of Pelagius at worst. It is the purpose of this essay to indicate the vital role monasticism played in the continuing reform of Christianity, and to encourage Lutheran Christians, who stand in a similar reforming tradition, to approach the concept of communal religious life with understanding if not with sympathetic …

Our Common Confession And Its Implications For Today, Robert Bertram Nov 1968

Our Common Confession And Its Implications For Today, Robert Bertram

Concordia Theological Monthly

What is it that our confession, or rather the God we confess, is revolutionizing? What is He overturning and replacing? Our sin with His righteousness? Yes, but not only that. Our old world with His new world? That too, but not only that. The tyrants and principalities of this age with His new age? Not even only that. What He is replacing is His own old order - old, yet truly His.
