This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "An Analysis of the 1977 Omaha General Election," by Murray Frost.
Party registration was the factor most associated with the mayoral vote, according to an analysis of survey data collected by CAUR in the five days preceding the May 10, 1977 election.1 Although the pattern of votes in the non-partisan mayoral election was also associated with sex, geographical area, and age, the relationship was strongest for party registration. Betty Abbott (a registered Republican) was favored by 58 percent of the registered Republicans willing to disclose their choices, and AI Veys …

Forward To Our Origins: Social Work Skills And Political Action In The Current Crisis, Bertram A. Weinert
Forward To Our Origins: Social Work Skills And Political Action In The Current Crisis, Bertram A. Weinert
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
The last decade of the 19th century and the years prior to World War I was an exciting and fruitful period in United States history. It was a time of unrest, but characterized by vigorous discontent, not cynicism or despair. There was an aggressive optimism that fostered confidence in social action, even to the belief that poverty could be abolished. The failure to achieve that goal remains our burden today, but to have begun the struggle then was a significant step. It was the developing profession of social work that initiated that battle against poverty.

Have you been wondering why al I the ideas you learned in Economics I haven't been working? Why the forecasts made at summit meetings of economists seem to go wrong? Why the U.S. economy, in utter disregard of all the rules of classical economics, suffers rising inflation and rising unemployment at the same time?
Well, there are reasons. Reasons that establishment economists have not wanted to face, and sti I I refuse to face, because the great myth of the last three decades would then be exposed. The myth is that we are so rich, so productive and so favored …

The Conservation Of Space And Energy Through Use Of The Subsurface By Planned Excavation And Conversion Of Mined Areas, Truman Stauffer Sr.
The Conservation Of Space And Energy Through Use Of The Subsurface By Planned Excavation And Conversion Of Mined Areas, Truman Stauffer Sr.
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
The use of subsurface space and especially the conversion of mined space into continuous tenure and occupance by uses secondary to the mining venture effects a direct conservation of energy in utilizing the natural rock matrix temperatures and an indirect conservation of energy in making dual use of a land resource. These savings are furthered when planning occurs at the time of the rock removal so as to leave the mined space easily adaptible to functional and continuous use as warehouses; offices, and factories.
A recent survey shows the continued expansion of underground development in the Kansas City area. This …
