The idea of a scholarship program is almost as old as the oldest institution of higher learning. The universality of such a program is almost completely comprehensive throughout the world. Although the purpose of scholarship programs has varied as much as each of the institutions varies, in most of the situations the programs have been well acclaimed. The success of these programs in terms of the student has often been tested or at least scrutinized. This type of study has been attempted several times. An attempt was made in the present research to investigate the effects of informational source, instructional differences, environment in the college, and awareness of ethnic and religious attitudes as the result of the administration of the test instrument.

Subjects used in the study were drawn from courses in general psychology and basic orientation courses in engineering. All subjects were presented with a revision of the Bogardus Social Distance Scale following the fall quarter of instruction (1960-61 academic year). All but a control group taken from one psychology section received the same scale at the beginning of the instructional period.

Organized education, historically, has been slow to commit itself to any sort of intensive examination of how learning can be both analyzed and substantially improved. But today Komoski (1960) tells us that we are looking beyond the traditional approaches to teaching. If a newly developed method is shown to be more effective than the techniques which have traditionally been employed, it is carefully considered for incorporation into the current education program.

The phenomenon of not relying solely up on one's own judgment and of distorting one's perception toward a perceived social norm has been observed to take place with a rather large percentage of subjects participating in a number of research projects. Both Asch and Sherif have done extensive work showing this distortion of perception when an individual is placed in a group setting and finds himself in a contradictory position between his own perception and that of the other group members.

This thesis was designed as a follow up of a study completed in 1959 which developed nine criteria for measuring religious maturity. The objective of this study was to develop a scale based on the nine criteria and administer it to seminary teachers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to explore the possibility of measuring differences in religious maturity. It was assumed that younger teachers who obtained a degree in a human behaviorally-oriented field of study would show the greatest level of religious maturity.

The purpose of the present study is to discover some of the biographical factors (personal, family, and environmental) which are characteristic of a majority of underachievers in junior high school. The discovery of these factors may lead to the development of an instrument which would assist in the detection, early in school, of an underachieving predisposition. This seems to be a logical possibility in view of a study by Shaw and Mccuen (1960). This study reports that the Pelto Projective Pictures when scored by the Atkinson-Heyns-Veroff procedure is a valid instrument for measuring n affiliation. The hypothesis that an experimental group of junior-high-school students exposed to a stimulus would display a significantly higher mean n affiliation score than a control group was rejected. A sex difference was involved in the failure to reject the null hypothesis. There is strong evidence that n affiliation was aroused in an experimental group of females, but not in an experimental group of males. ABSTRACT - A simple count of disturbed incidents in the mentally ill and total radio transmissions of the Minneapolis Police Departmenf were collected daily over a six-month period. These were correlated with calendar time, temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure for the same period. Separate comparisons were made of all these measures for December 1959 with those of other Decembers. All the weather variables correlated linearly and significantly with the behavior v.ariables; temperature and humidity, positively; barometric pressure negatively. Calendar time for the half year correlated linearly and negatively. December 1959 had a higher crime and mental disturbance rate than other …
