The Cold War was a decades-long competition between the US and the Soviet Union marked mainly by an existential nuclear arms race, the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction, and the dire opposition of democracy and communism worldwide. Today, however, the concept of a ‘Cold War,’ a frozen conflict, has expanded to include other forms of competition, and perhaps even new conflicts based in a state’s desire for hegemonic power. This study intended to combine the political theories of Constructivism and Realism to form Constructive Realism, a theory that emphasizes the significance of state power and norms as joint influences on constituents. Volodymyr Zelenskyy's public diplomacy during the Russo-Ukrainian conflict was examined in this dissertation. Zelenskyy’s discourse emphasized his action-oriented traits, Ukrainian identity, and nationalism. The study employed LTA, and LIWC-22, for natural language processing analyses of Zelenskyy's public speeches and diplomatic discourse. Zelenskyy demonstrated agency, adaptability, collaboration, and positive language patterns, suggesting confidence and optimism, according to the data. In addition, the research emphasizes how domestic and international factors influence state behavior, as well as how political demands, cultural, historical, and political factors influence Zelenskyy's decision-making.

In the developing world, countries are hit hardest and most frequently by the effects of climate change, such as severe floods, droughts, and desertification. By nature, their opaqueness and deliberate ambiguity in what they bring to the table disincentivizes scrutiny or critique from other government entities and the general public. There is very little accountability to be had for intelligence agencies, even in Western liberal democracies: no amount of voting will change how they are structured or operated, and thus incentive to change usually does not arise from domestic pressures, but rather from large-scale failures. This dissertation examines the causes and conditions motivating states to discontinue supporting an ongoing military coalition operation and prematurely abandon their partners. In exploring coalition defection through a three-article dissertation, I advance three separate theoretical arguments focusing on three levels of analysis.

The first article contributes to the literature by investigating the effects of political regime types on coalition abandonment during interstate wars. I argue that anocracies are dependable wartime partners and will not abandon coalition warfare earlier than autocracies and democracies. As social and political discourse in most countries becomes more polarized, anti-Americanism has risen not only in the Middle East and Latin America but also among the U.S. allies in Europe. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers (1959) as a “fascist” novel by further investigating the claim through a close reading of the novel that applies political theory scholarship on fascism. สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อตอบคำถามว่า บทบาทของกองกำลังป้องกันตนเองญี่ปุ่นเปลี่ยนแปลงจากเดิมอย่างไรภายใต้รัฐบาลอาเบะ ในช่วงปี 2012 ถึง 2019 และเพราะอะไรจึงเกิดความเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้ขึ้น จากการศึกษาพบว่า ภายใต้รัฐบาลอาเบะได้ขยายบทบาทของกองกำลังป้องกันตนเองญี่ปุ่นในหลายด้าน เช่น การเพิ่มอำนาจในการใช้อาวุธ การขยายขอบเขตปฏิบัติการในต่างประเทศ และการเพิ่มความร่วมมือทางทหารกับมิตรประเทศ โดยรัฐบาลอาเบะวางยุทธศาสตร์ใหม่ด้วยการส่งเสริมนโยบายสันติภาพเชิงรุก (proactive contributions to peace) รวมถึงการป้องกันแบบ ไร้รอยต่อ (seamless defense) ปัจจัยสำคัญที่ผลักดันการเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้ ได้แก่ การขยายอิทธิพลของจีนในภูมิภาค ปัญหาข้อพิพาทบริเวณหมู่เกาะเซนคากุ และการพัฒนาขีปนาวุธของเกาหลีเหนืออย่างต่อเนื่อง สารนิพนธ์ฉบับชี้ให้เห็นว่า การปรับเปลี่ยนบทบาทของ JSDF สะท้อนยุทธศาสตร์การถ่วงดุลอำนาจโดยละม่อม (soft balancing) ของญี่ปุ่นต่อมหาอำนาจในภูมิภาค รัฐบาลอาเบะมุ่งเสริมสร้างศักยภาพของกองกำลังป้องกันตนเองญี่ปุ่นภายใต้ข้อจำกัดของรัฐธรรมนูญมาตรา 9 และความคิดเห็นของประชาชน

ปัจจุบันกิจการอวกาศมีการพัฒนาไปอย่างรวดเร็ว และยังเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในพลังอำนาจสำคัญที่สามารถสร้างผลประโยชน์ให้กับประเทศชาติได้หลากหลายมิติ โดยเฉพาะในงานด้านความมั่นคงที่ใช้อวกาศเป็นหนึ่งในสนามรบสมัยใหม่เพื่อแสวงหาประโยชน์ กองทัพบกเป็นอีกหนึ่งองค์กรที่ได้นำเทคโนโลยีอวกาศมาใช้ในงานด้านความมั่นคงตามแนวชายแดนไทย เพื่อให้รับกับภัยคุกคามรูปแบบใหม่ที่เกิดขึ้นในโลกปัจจุบัน งานวิจัยฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาแนวทางการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีอวกาศของกองทัพบกเพื่อใช้ในงานด้านความมั่นคงโดยเฉพาะในงานข่าวกรอง ลาดตระเวน และการเฝ้าตรวจบริเวณชายแดน โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผ่านการสัมภาษณ์บุคลากรในกองทัพบกที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญและเกี่ยวข้องกับเทคโนโลยีอวกาศ โดยผลการศึกษาแสดงให้เห็นว่าเทคโนโลยีอวกาศถูกนำเข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในยุทธศาสตร์ด้านความมั่นคง เพื่อการปกป้องตนเองจากภัยคุกคาม และเป็นการแสดงให้เห็นว่ากองทัพบกได้พัฒนารูปแบบการรบให้มีศักยภาพในการรับมือกับภัยคุกคามรูปแบบใหม่ที่ครอบคลุมทุกมิติ

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นหุ้นส่วนทางยุทธศาสตร์ด้านไซเบอร์ระหว่างสหรัฐอเมริกากับออสเตรเลีย โดยอาศัยกรอบทฤษฎีสัจนิยมคลาสสิคใหม่ เพื่อนำมาวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์ด้านความมั่นคงที่ช่วยส่งเสริมให้สหรัฐฯ ตัดสินใจเลือกออสเตรเลียเป็นส่วนสำคัญในยุทธศาสตร์ความมั่นคงระดับภูมิภาค รวมถึงการส่งเสริมให้ออสเตรเลียก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นรัฐที่มีขีดความสามารถทางไซเบอร์ขั้นสูง ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ความร่วมมือด้านไซเบอร์ระหว่างสหรัฐฯ กับออสเตรเลีย เกิดจากความร่วมมือด้านความมั่นคงที่มีมายาวนานและเป็นไปอย่างต่อเนื่องนับตั้งแต่สงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 และเนื่องด้วยสหรัฐฯ ประสบกับภัยคุกคามจากมหาอำนาจในภูมิภาคเอเชีย - แปซิฟิกที่ต้องการก้าวขึ้นมามีอิทธิพลเหนือสหรัฐฯ ทำให้สหรัฐฯ ต้องหันกลับมาให้ความสำคัญแก่พันธมิตรดั้งเดิมในภูมิภาคโดยเฉพาะออสเตรเลีย การที่สหรัฐฯ สนับสนุนขีดความสามารถด้านไซเบอร์ให้แก่ออสเตรเลีย เป็นไปเพื่อให้ทั้งสหรัฐฯ และออสเตรเลียสามารถตอบสนองภัยคุกคามรูปแบบใหม่ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผล

Research into the correlates of right-wing extremism has been focused on the group level, mainly ignoring the individual right-wing extremist behaviors, characteristics, and traits. Although group milieu strongly affects the ideology of individuals, personal decisions making often comes from a combination of unique experiences, cognitive abilities and biases, and differences in individual traits. This biographical study aimed to examine the life course events of twenty-five individual right-wing extremists identifying common biological and circumstantial correlates among and between the subjects. The Syrian operation of 2012 was the first successful employment by Russia of expeditionary warfare, narrowly defined as naval support to Russian (or Soviet) ground forces in a war away from their periphery (i.e., in a country that does not border them), from the sea. This thesis examines the role of judicial institutions, typically overlooked in conflict studies, in their capacity to reduce the likelihood of conflict such as civil wars. I argue that courts that enjoy judicial independence can provide institutional mechanisms that reduce conflict, such as civil war. Specifically, I employ several rare events logistic and OLS regression models with robust clustered standard errors testing the effects of judicial independence on civil war likelihood and regime opposition size. The results indicate that judicial independence and judicial power have inconsistent and mixed results across these models and generally do not support the theory. In …
