The destruction of iron by corrosion, under the influence of natural agencies, is far more rapid than the decay of wood and other materials of construction. Were it not for iron, the erection of large works of engineering would be impossible. Their very size and consequent cost represent a large sum of human energy. This is, after all, the only true foundation for wealth and it becomes a duty to preserve iron from decay.

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Solids dissolved in a liquid produce a general decrease in the evaporation rate of the solvent. Experiments were performed, using light naphtha as the solvent and Paraffin, Japan, Carnauba, Candelilla, Ozokerite, Montan, and Bees waxes as solutes. These waxes were selected since they are the waxes most commonly used in the manufacture of floor waxes and work of the kind presented in this thesis finds its greatest application in connection with that industry.
