Collector-Depressant Equilibria For The Flotation System Potassium Ethyl Xanthate-Potassium Cyanide-Molybdenite, Connell Bolton Roberts

This dissertation involves a study of the collector-depressant equilibria of the flotation system potassium ethyl xanthate-potassium cyanide-molybdenite, based upon mineral-air bubble contact measurements made by a modified captive bubble technique. The Cook theory of single site free acid adsorption is used to interpret the data. The standard free energies of adsorption of ethyl xanthic acid and hydrocyanic acid on molybdenite are calculated.

The Kinetics Of The Exchange Between Diiodotyrosine And Iodine, Alfred H. Zeltzmann

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

The rate of exchange of iodine with diiodotyrosine in squamous solution was studied as a function of the concentrations of both reactants, of the pH, and of the temperature. The concentration of diiodotyrosine was varied from 0.0000475 to 0.01251 moles per liter and that of the iodine from 0.0000103 to 0.000395 moles per liter. The upper limits of concentration studied were determined by the solubilities of both the iodine and diiodotyrosine. The ratio of concentration of diiodotyrosine to that of iodine was varied from 227 to 0.5, the temperature was varied from 25.1° C to 42.1° C, and the pH …

The foremost purpose of this report is to outline the general geology and geomorphology of the mapped area. Secondarily, the relationship of the Santa Fe formation of late Tertiary age to older strata is explored. Presence of basalts and other volcanics in the Santa Fe formation is shown. Evidence indicating the probable contemporaneity of part of the Chicoma volcanic group and of the Santa Fe formation is discussed.

A question of interest to the study of the chemisorption of carbon monoxide on iron is whether the carbon is desorbed with the same oxygen to which it was bonded prior to the adsorption. A mixture of C¹³O and CO¹⁸ in the desorbed gas in amounts greater than expected from normal abundance ratios shows that an intermolecular oxygen exchange occurs.

The thesis area lies along the eastern base of North Ridge which forms the northern part of the Caballo Mountains. This ridge rises abruptly, about 1,500 feet, above the considerably dissected lowland on which the area is located. The lowland lies near the head of Mescal Canyon and is dissected into the ridges and valley with a relief as much as 300 feet. The drainage is east and north into Mescal Canyon (Pl.2) which joins the Rio Grande just below Elephant Butte Dam.

The problem of the analysis of brass and bronze for aluminum is one that has received the attention of analytical chemists for decades. The problem was originally proposed to me by Mr. H.E. Gregory of the American Brass Company. Since there appears to be no direct way of determining aluminum in brass and bronze, this thesis will concern itself with a comparison of four methods of determination with emphasis on their relative advantages and disadvantages. The gathering and arranging of the steps in the methods were done by the author, although the steps themselves have been described in chemical literature.

The amines may be regarded as derivatives of the hydrocarbons in which a hydrogen atom has been replaced by an amino group; or as derivatives of ammonia in which one or more hydrogen atoms have been replaced by alkyl groups. They may be classified according to structure as primary (R-NH2), secondary (¾-NH) and tertiary (R3-N) amines. In a similar way, ammonium halides or hydroxides may have one or more hydrogen atoms of the ammonium group replaced by alkyl groups to give alkylammonium, dialkylammonium, trialkylammonium and tetraalkylammonium halides or hydroxides.

The purposes of the research were (1) to determine the theoretical collector-depressant equilibria conditions of this system necessary for the flotation or depression of molybdenite, (2) to ascertain the mechanism of adsorption or the collector potassium n-amyl xanthate and the depressant sodium sulfide on molybdenite, and (3) to calculate the standard free energy of adsorption on molybdenite of the collector and depressant in this system.
