Distribution And Proportion Of Immunoreactive Neuron Specific Enoclase Containing Cells In The Rat Pineal Gland, Alfonso Miranda C.
Distribution And Proportion Of Immunoreactive Neuron Specific Enoclase Containing Cells In The Rat Pineal Gland, Alfonso Miranda C.
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
The distribution and proportion of cytoplasm containing immunoreactive neuron specific enolase (NSE) in the rat pineal have been investigated. Step serial sections of the pineal glands of 7 male Sprague-Dawley rats were stained for NSE using an indirect immunoperoxidase method. The volumes of the pineals and of the regions containing reactive cells were derived from the distance between sections and the sum of the corresponding sectional areas of camera lucida drawings. The proportion of the NSE areas actually consisting of NSE reactive cytoplasm was measured using an image array processor.
Cytoplasm reactive for NSE was consistently localized to the posterior …

Vocal Pitch Range And Habitual Pitch Level: The Study Of Normal College Age Speakers, Patricia Jo Huss
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to compare the relationship between the habitual speaking pitch levels and the total pitch ranges.of 15 male and 15 female normal young adults and to compare these relationships to those which have been reported previously for male and female superior speakers. The difference between normal male and normal female speakers was significant, as was the difference between normal male speakers and superior male speakers. The difference between normal female speakers and superior female speakers was non-significant.

This study was designed to train Black college freshman to be effectively assertive in their interactions with the University faculty and staff. Thirty freshman students were randomly assigned to two groups of fifteen each, the control group and the training group. Following the pretest, the training group took part in a 32-hour assertiveness training program. The program consisted of modeling, coaching, behavior rehearsal, peer and trainer feedback, homework, self-recording and instructional training. Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Serum Creatine Kinase Activity And Its Isoenzymes In Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Chue-Fun Chen, I-Nan Lien, Fung-Jou Lu
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Serum creatine phosphokinase (CK) and its three isoenzymes (CK-MM, CK-MB and CK-BB types) were studied on 23 patients with well-defined Duchenne muscular dystrophy and 24 normal subjects. The cardiac status of the patients was evaluated with ECG examination. The functional capacity of each patient was evaluated and divided into 9 calsses. The CK activities (IU/L) of the patients were significantly higher than those of the normal subjects (p<0.05). CK isoenzyme analysis with electrophoresis on cellulose acetate revaled that the sera of the 24 normal subjects contained only CK-MM isoenzyme. In addition to CK-MM isoenzyme, CK-MB isoenzyme was present in 20 case …

The Effect Of Orally Administered Butylated Hydroxytoluene On Herpes Simplex Keratitis, Donald Carson
The Effect Of Orally Administered Butylated Hydroxytoluene On Herpes Simplex Keratitis, Donald Carson
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Some studies have reported in vitro inactivation of membrane enveloped viruses by Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). This study investigates the effect of orally administered BHT on primary infections of Herpes simplex virus (HSV) using rabbit corneas as the assay system.
Assigned levels of BHT were incorporated into the diet of New Zealand White rabbits with HSV-1 McKrae strain on the corneal surface of the eyes. The degree of infection was measured by a subjective assay. Rabbits receiving BHT in their diet consistently experienced lower levels of infection. The interpretation of this data is that orally administered BHT can be an effective …
