Treatment Of Paget's Bone Disease With The Bisphosphonate Apd, Carlos A. Mautalen

Thirty-two patients with Paget's bone disease have been treated with the bisphosphonate APD. Nineteen had previously received treatment for Paget's disease with EHDP alone or in combination with calcitonin; 13 had not previously received treatment for Paget's disease. APD was given in a mean dose of 6.8 mg/kg of body weight during a period of 6 to 12 months. Bone pain disappeared or diminished in 91% of the patients. A very significant diminution of the biochemical indices of bone turnover was observed in all patients, but the response occurred faster in patients who had not previously received treatment for Paget's …

內、外膝眼與陰、陽陵泉是針灸在臨床上常用的穴位，用以治療膝關節疼痛。但是用膝眼治療一段時期以後，常有滑囊炎之發生，而陰、陽陵泉卻甚少有不正常之現象。本實驗之設計即在于探討針刺這些穴位對組織之傷害。將十五隻紐西蘭種白兔分為三組，每組五隻。第一組每日針刺陰、陽陵泉及內、外膝眼各二次。第二組與第一組刺同樣穴位，但每日僅一次。第三組每三日針刺陰、陽陵泉各一次。針刺前，先測定各組白兔之關節圍度，血液中之紅血球、白血球計數，及血色素濃度與紅血球沉降速率，並做膝關節X光攝影。經過針刺15日，30日，60日，120日後，每組分別重複前述各項檢查，並從各組任意犧牲一隻白兔做關節滑囊之切片檢查。比較不同之針刺頻率及部位，對關節及其周圍組織之傷害。結果顯示，關節及其周圍組織所產生之病變，的確與針刺之頻率及時間之長短有關。尤其，針刺之頻率愈高、時間愈長，對組織之傷害程度也就愈大。因此，同一穴位之針刺頻率及時間不宜過多；其針刺間隔最好在一日或二日以上，時間以不超過60日為宜。

Because there is no standard data available for normal Chinese in assessing patients with tardy ulnar palsy, we performed this study to establish normal values of motor nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in crossing elbow.Twenty subjects, age between 20-35 years, were examined with Meditro Model 440 EMG, the room temperature was controlled around 22.0±1℃ by air conditioning. The results of mean normal motor NCV in different segments of ulnar nerve are as follows: below elbow to wrist is 66.45±6.28 m/sec; above elbow to wrist is 57.72±3.99 m/sec; across elbow is 46.64±5.81 m/sec. “An 88-year-old male patient was found on his hands and knees on the floor beside his bed. The bedrails were up.”—From an indent report filed by a nurse at the Stillman Infirmary, University Health Services, Harvard University, in May 1980.

Finding elderly patients lying on the floor beside their beds despite the presence of elevated bedrails seems paradoxical: how can a patient fall out of bed when the bedrails are up? Surprisingly, this paradox constitutes one of the leading incidents plaguing hospitals in the United States today. Protease, hemolysin and cytotoxin were found in all diseased snakehead fish (Ophicephalus striatus). Aeromonas hydrophila was the predominant bacterium of all fish homogenates from both wounded areas and viscera. Total bacterial count of the fish homogenates was sufficiently high to cause disease and mortality to the fish. A. hydrophila F588, isolated from diseased snakehead fish,produced protease, hemolysin and cytotoxin. No detectable proteolytic, hemolytic or cytotxic activity was found in the fish homogenates or A. hydrophila F588 cell suspension after heating at 100°C for 10 min or autoclaving at 121°C for 15 min at 15 lb/in2. The toxicity of nitroxynil administered subcutaneously was determined in Thai native and crossbred calves and yearling cattle. Maximum tolerated dosage was 50 milligrams per kilogram in calves and yearling cattle. Lethal dosage were 55 milligrams per kilogram in calves and yearling cattle. The toxic doses caused the animals death in 24 to 28 hours with clinical signs. At the dose rate of 10 milligrams per kilogram, nitroxynil had no effect on fertility, embryoes or foetuses. The drug could be administered repeatedly at 1 month interval to the pregnant cows up to 8 months of gestation period without affecting reproductive performance.

ในการศึกษาหาระดับของ ทองแดง, โคบอลต์ และซีลีเนียมในซีรั่มกระบือปลัก 26 ตัว จากจังหวัดชลบุรี สุรินทร์ และแพร่ โดยวิธี noutron activation ร่วมกับการ แยกธาตุทางเคมี ปรากฏว่า ค่าเฉลี่ยของทองแดง เท่ากับ 0.99 ± 0.19 ไมโครกรัม /มล. สำหรับโคบอลต์สามารถวิเคราะห์ได้เฉพาะซีรั่มของกระบือชลบุรีเท่านั้น คือได้ 0.059 ± 0.037 ไมโครกรัม /มล. ส่วนค่าเฉลี่ยของซีลีเนี่ยมของกระบือทั้ง 3 ภาค เท่ากับ 0.051 ± 0.02 ไมโครกรัม/มล.

เนื้องอกที่เกิดขึ้นเองในซากไก่งวง เป็ด และห่าน ที่หมวดโรงพยาบาลสัตว์ คณะเกษตรศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น จากเดือนเมษายน 2523 ถึงเดือนมีนาคม 2526 มี leucosis ในไก่งวง 1 ตัว Marek's disease-like ในเป็ด 1 ตัวและ squamous cell carcinomas ในห่าน 9 ตัว ได้มีการบรรยายถึงอาการ พยาธิวิทยา ที่ดูด้วยตาเปล่า และจุลพยาธิวิทยาของโรคเนื้องอกเหล่านี้ด้วย

จากการสำรวจฟาร์มไก่ไข่แห่งหนึ่งในหมู่บ้านสหกรณ์ อ.สันกำแพง จ.เชียงใหม่ ซึ่งมีไก่จำนวน 64,000 ตัว อายุตั้งแต่ 8 สัปดาห์ ถึง 1 ปี 7 เดือน พบว่าไก่ส่วนมากมี อาการหายใจเสียงดังผิดปกติและเล้าที่ไข่แล้วมีจำนวนไม่ลดลง ผลการตรวจมหาไตเตอร์ ของเชื้อไมโคพลาสมา กัลลิเซพติคัม พบผลบวกอยู่ระหว่าง 64-100% การแยกเชื้อฯจาก หลอดลมของไก่ที่แสดงอาการป่วย 4 ตัว ได้เชื้อไมโคพลาสมา กัลลิเซพติคัม 2 ตัวอย่างเชื้อ การใช้ยาไทโลซินรักษาได้รับผลสำเร็จ การทดสอบหา Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) ของยาปฏิชีวนะชนิดต่าง ๆ กับสองตัวอย่างเชื้อที่พบให้ผลดังนี้ : ลินโคไมซิน ไฮโดรคลอไรด์ โมโนไฮเดรท ควบ สเปคติโนไมขึ้นซัลเฟท เตตราไฮเดรท เท่ากับ 1.29/2.60 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร ; อิริโธรไมขืน ไรโอไซอาเนท เท่ากับ 24.50 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร : ด๊อกซีไซคลินไฮเดรท เท่ากับ 0.48 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร : ไทโลซินการเทรต เท่ากับ 7.81 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร: สเปคติโนไม่ขึ้น ไดไฮโดรเพนตราไฮเดรท เท่ากับ 0.97 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร และคลอเตตราไซคลีน ไฮโดรคลอไรด์ เท่ากับ 7.81 ไมโครกรัม/มิลลิลิตร

ลูกควายปลักเพศเมียอายุ 1 เดือน และเพศผู้อายุ 23 วัน จากจังหวัดนครราชสีมา และจังหวัดสุรินทร์ตามลำดับ ป่วยตายโดยแสดงอาการอุจจาระร่วง กลิ่นเหม็นคาว จากการตรวจรอยโรคด้วยตาเปล่าและทางจุลพยาธิวิทยา พบรอยโรคที่สำคัญคือกระเพาะลําไส้อักเสบ และพบเชื้อบิดในระยะต่าง ๆ ฝังในเซลล์เยื่อบุผนังภายในของลําไส้ด้วย, ที่ตับ มีจุดเนื้อตายพร้อมทั้งมี granuloma เล็ก ๆ กระจายทั่วไป ผลการตรวจแยกเชื้อแบคทีเรีย พบเชื้อ S. typhimurium และ S.agona ตามลำดับจากอวัยวะต่าง ๆ และอุจจาระ ส่วน ผลการตรวจทางปาราสิตวิทยาพบทั้ง Complete และ incomplete oocyst ของเชื้อบิด (Eimeria beilleyi) เป็นจำนวนมากในอุจจาระ

Research has produced evidence associating progressive, bilateral, sensorineural hearing loss with diabetes mellitus in human and animal subjects. The microangiopathy which is presumably the cause of hearing loss appears similar to the microangiopathy leading to retinal and renal atrophy.

In the present study the temporal bones of six streptozotocininduced diabetic Chinese hamsters and six nondiabetic Chinese hamsters were histologically processed. Sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin were assessed for total auditory and vestibular otopathology and revealed no statistically significant differences between the two groups. A Study Of The Validity Of The Global Assessment Scale, Daniel J. Dekker

The study evaluated the concurrent validity of the Global Assessment Scale (GAS), a rating scale which is used to measure overall severity of psychiatric disturbance in program evaluation systems and in research studies. Validity was evaluated by comparing GAS ratings of 60 community mental health outpatients to scores on the MMPI.

The literature review indicated that the GAS has been used in over 90 studies. Thirty-one inter-rater reliability coefficients cited indicated an acceptable median reliability of .80, but studies relevant to the GAS's validity were sparse and marginally supportive. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between a patient's first name (desirable versus undesirable) and the clinical judgment of psychopathology by mental health professionals. Specifically, this study examined how a patient's first name affected the diagnosis of maladjustment.

A total of 266 mental health professionals viewed a standardized video taped interview with a patient. Through the analysis of two surveys, the following first names were randomly presented with the viewed patient: Christopher, David, Mortimer and Junior. Schistosomiasis is a serious disease in humans. Two species of schistosome, Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma haematobium, organisms that cause the disease, parasitize humans in Libya. Schistosomes require aquatic snails in their life cycle. The purpose of this study was to investigate the environmental and the host relationships of the disease in the three regions of Libya where the disease is found. These relationships include:

1) Analyses of the physical-chemical characteristics of the aquatic habitat.
