The end of the academic year heralds the arrival of the 1970 APOTHECARY. It has been a fast-paced, hectic time for all. For some, this ends the formal pharmacy curriculum and thus many new situations lie ahead. As we come to the close of another academic year, so ends this edition of THE APOTHECARY. For many of us, this is our last year of formal education at dear ole Southwestern. About the Cover

The cover depicts the proposed addition to the present facilities to the School of Pharmacy. When completed at an estimated cost in excess of $1 million, the addition will double our laboratory and classroom space. The School of Pharmacy will occupy the entire third floor and a portion of the second floor in the proposed addition.

We, as seniors, are now rapidly approaching graduation and are beginning to plan our future lives and endeavors after receiving our degrees. Several are planning to continue their education in pharmacy or related fields, but the majority will enter the profession at the retail level. In whatever direction we decide to embark, let us hope we can remember the many things which our professors have tried to teach us. Through the courtesy of the National Institutes of Health, Grants and Fellowships Division, a project was established at Brigham Young University to study the distribution and host relationships of vectors for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and plague in the state of Utah.

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Of the four capable vectors listed as present in the United States, Dermacentor andersoni and Haemaphysalis leporis palustris are found in Utah. Listed for Utah as potential (experimental) vectors are Dermacentor parumapertus, Dermacentor albipictus, Rhipicephalis sanguineus and Ornithodoros parkeri. Of the potential vectors D. parumapertus is the only species having extensive distribution in Utah. …
