There is no better way of cutting food costs than to raise food in your own garden. It can't be denied that vegetables are fresh when they are picked right from the garden. Quality and food value of purchased vegetables are lost by delay in getting them to the consumer. Gardening is fun. It provides a useful form of recreation for the entire family.

The first and most important step in the baby beef phase is to select the type of calf that will make the most economical gains and finally dress out a highly desirable carcass. The success and profit of the enterprise will depend on the conformation, feeding ability and quality of the calf selected.
The Influence Of Single, Two, And Three Stage Bleaching On The Opacity Of Deinked Stock, Wilbur Kite
The Influence Of Single, Two, And Three Stage Bleaching On The Opacity Of Deinked Stock, Wilbur Kite
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
"Bleaching may be defined as the alteration of coloring matter in such fashion as to cause it to reflect more true white, or the solubilizing of such coloring matter to make it possible to wash out the color substance, or both." (2) The most common method of bleaching is the oxidation of the coloring substance although reduction with ZnS2O is sometimes used with ground-wood. This discussion will be limited to bleaching by means of oxidizing agents namely: chlorine and calcium hypochlorite.

A Study Of Yields In Deinking At Atmospheric And Elevated Pressures, Wilbur R. Noel
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
The recovery of waste paper has become an operation of tremendous economic importance to the paper industry. In 1948 (7), 21,922,000 tons of paper and board were produced. Waste paper represented 35% of all fibrous material consumed in this production. Deinking plays an important role in the recovery of waste paper. Of the 8,446,900 tons of all types of paper produced in 1943. 12.7% was deinked waste paper stock, while in the same year wastepaper content in board was 61.6%. Most of the waste paper is used in the manufacture of board, by just dispersing the ink in the stock …
Bulletin No. 346 - Irrigation Waters Of Utah, J. P. Thorne, D. W. Thorne
Bulletin No. 346 - Irrigation Waters Of Utah, J. P. Thorne, D. W. Thorne
UAES Bulletins
Irrigation waters are never pure. All contain some dissolved salts. The amount may vary from a trace to concentrations so great that the water is unfit for use. The kind of salt in irrigation water may be even more important than the total amount. Borates in extremely low quantities, for example, may injure or kill crop plants. If the proportion of sodium in irrigation water is high, the soil may be gradually rendered unproductive. On the other hand, the salts may consist in part of essential plant nutrients or other helpful salts that aid in keeping soils productive.

Bulletin No. 348 - Cost And Efficiency Of Producing Canning Corn In Cache County, Utah, 1949, Earnest M. Morrison, Willis G. Kearl
UAES Bulletins
The canning corn enterprise is becoming increasingly important to the farmers of Utah. For two decades prior to 1940, the acreage used in canning corn production varied between 400 and 800 acres; however, it has increased from 600 acres in 1942 to 6,300 acres in 1949. This increase has been larger, both in percentage and in absolute amount, than for any other intertilled or orchard crop in the state during the same period of time. In 1949 the farm value of canning corn sold was $567,000. Peas and tomatoes were the only canning crops which exceeded it in value.

The Factors Governing The Retention Of Emulsified Elastomers Added To Pulp In The Beater, Raymond C. Wagner
The Factors Governing The Retention Of Emulsified Elastomers Added To Pulp In The Beater, Raymond C. Wagner
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
A number of previous investigations have shown that elastomers incorporated in the pulp gives improved strength characteristics without any noticeable effect on the appearance of the paper. Since lattices are added in dispersions of very small particle sizes, we are confronted with the factors governing the retention of these additives to produce a higher quality paper at an economical cost.

The Saponification Of Esters, Robert Delong Sullivan
The Saponification Of Esters, Robert Delong Sullivan
Bachelors’ Theses
The kinetics of chemical reactions has always been a very intriguing subject. It is the tool by which the mechanisms of chemical reactions are elucidated. Upon it partly rate the advisability of utilization of a particular reaction for industrial purposes. From it the field or catalysis has sprung. Chemical kinetics. is concerned with all branches of chemistry. Conversely, all branches of chemistry have an interest in it.
This thesis will attempt to do two things. First, the order, specific rate constant, and the energy of activation will be determined from the saponification of several esters. second, the introduction will cover, …

Some Economic Aspects Of The Fluid Milk Industry Of Nebraska, Kenneth E. Anderson
Some Economic Aspects Of The Fluid Milk Industry Of Nebraska, Kenneth E. Anderson
Department of Agricultural Economics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Most citizens of Nebraska, especially the dairy farmers who produced milk for city consumption, are currently concerned with the problem of marketing fluid milk.In Nebraska and all over the United States, sales of wholesale milk farmers have been increasing for the past 15 years, while cream sales to creameries have been decreasing.
Production of milk in Nebraska is greatest in the eastern part of the state.Likewise, consumption is concentrated in Eastern Nebraska. This is most likely due to Eastern Nebraska’s highly concentrated population as well as the most favorable farm conditions for dairy cows.
Most of the bottled milk in …
A Taxonomic Study Of The Catostomidae Of Utah Lake With Notes On The Fish Population, Lyle Junior Lowder
A Taxonomic Study Of The Catostomidae Of Utah Lake With Notes On The Fish Population, Lyle Junior Lowder
Theses and Dissertations
During the period from October 1950 to March 1951 a study of the taxonomy of the Catostomidae of Utah Lake was undertaken. Throughout this study information was collected on the numbers of suckers taken by some of the fisherman. From the data gathered it appears that the three species of Catostomidae cringinally named from Utah Lake are still there. The external morphological features of these fish are not recognizable unless they are observed very carefully. The most outstanding external characteristics used to differentiate the species are the mouth, lips, papillae on the lips and the general shape of the head. …

Plague outbreaks in the past have been disastrous where domestic rats and their fleas of certain species were common. Plague has been known to occur in most parts of the world (Robertson 1923), and has occurred as human epidemics for many centuries (Dubos 1948).
Ecology Of Passerine Birds Wintering At Utah Lake, Joseph R. Murphy
Ecology Of Passerine Birds Wintering At Utah Lake, Joseph R. Murphy
Theses and Dissertations
During the period of October to April of the winter of 1950-51, an ecological study was undertaken of a population or passerine birds wintering in a segment of the Utah Lake Shore. Available winter weather data indicated that although such factors as precipitation, temperature, and wind may often be severe, they are not critical enough to prevent a fairly large population of passerine birds from spending the winter months in the study locale. Five fairly distinct plant communities can be recognized in the area. There is evidence which indicates that certain passerine bird species are especially dependent on a particular …

The In Vitro Determination Of Human Blood Oxygen Saturation In The Presence Of High Concentrations Of Carbon Dioxide, Elizabeth D. Armstrong
Biology ETDs
Mayow’s work in 1673 is cited by Landois (1905) as the first demonstration of the liberation of gases from blood in a vacuum. In 1863 Meyer, Ludwig, and Pfleuger established that the oxygen leaving the lung was transported in a combined form with hemoglobin and that the oxygen was released into the tissues accompanied by a change in color of the blood.
The Sweet Clover Weevil In South Dakota And Recommendations For Its Control, H.C. Severin
The Sweet Clover Weevil In South Dakota And Recommendations For Its Control, H.C. Severin
Agricultural Experiment Station Entomology Pamphlets (1940-1952)
The sweet clover weevil, bitona cylindricollis Fahr. is one of the principal insect pests attacking sweet clover in South Dakota. While the pest works on sweet clover principally, it has also been found feeding on other clovers and on alfalfa, although only in small numbers. The sweet clover weevil is a European insect which was first reported to have been taken on this continent near Montreal, Canada, in 1924. In 1941 it was found in South Dakota in small numbers but at the present time it occurs abundantly over the entire state.
Recommendations For The Control Of The Most Important Insect Pests Of Potatoes In South Dakota, H.C. Severin
Recommendations For The Control Of The Most Important Insect Pests Of Potatoes In South Dakota, H.C. Severin
Agricultural Experiment Station Entomology Pamphlets (1940-1952)
The important insect pests attacking potatoes in South Dakota must be controlled if a good or even a fair yield of potatoes is to be harvested. Many different species of insects attack growing potato plants in the state, but the insects of major importance do not form a long list. It is not necessary for the grower to be able to recognize the minor potato insects, but it is a distinct advantage to be able to recognize the major species. Further, it would be profitable if the potato grower would familiarize himself with the life cycle and seasonal h}story of …
