Bulletin No. 367 - Hybrid Corn Tests In Utah, Rollo W. Woodward, Rex F. Nielson
Bulletin No. 367 - Hybrid Corn Tests In Utah, Rollo W. Woodward, Rex F. Nielson
UAES Bulletins
The last summary of recommended corn hybrids published from this station was in 1939. Since that time there ha been a complete change of corn hybrid being tested and a considerable increase in both acreage and yield throughout the state. Corn used a silage is one of the most productive feed crop that can be grown on the irrigated land of the state. Under favorable moisture and fertility condition , hybrid corn can give outstanding yield of shelled corn per acre. At the present time only about one-sixth of the total corn acreage is devoted to grain, the bulk being …

Rb54-175 Farm Family Housing Needs And Preferences In Nebraska, Virginia Y. Trotter, Margaret I. Liston
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Some farm families in Nebraska want to build new houses. Many others are planning to remodel. These families will be asking architects, engineers, builders, contractors, and dealers for plans that meet their needs. Thus, farmhouse plans should be developed that provide for the basic needs of all farm families and that are adaptable to special requirements of some families.
This 1954 bulletin reports the results of a survey of Nebraska farm family preferences, activities and possessions as they are related to housing needs. The study was part of a cooperative research project for the improvement of farm family housing in …

Bulletin No. 362 - Sugar Beet Yield And Quality As Affected By Plan Population, Soil Moisture Condition, And Fertilization, Jay L. Haddock
UAES Bulletins
In 1605 Oliver de Serres, French agronomist, observed that beets contained sugar-and in 1750 Andrew Marggraf, a German physicist, obtained sugar crystals from beets. It was more than 100 years from Marggraf's discovery until the first successful beet sugar factory was developed in the United States at Alvarado, California, in 1870. Since that time beet sugar has become increasingly more important in our national economy. At present continental United States produces a third of her sugar requirements, 70 to 80 percent of which is from sugar beets. The importance of the sugar beet crop in national and world economy is …

A Preliminary Study Of The Effect Of Thyroxin On The Transport Of Glucose Across The Tubule Cells Of The Dog Kidney, Hayle Buchanan
Theses and Dissertations
The graduate studies of the writer began at Brigham Young University in the Autunm of 1951, at which time he filed his intention of majoring in Zoology and minoring in Chemistry. During the first three quarters he received instruction under his committee chairman in a sequence of courses entitled: "Body Fluids", "Neurology", and "Endocrinology". During the first of these three courses the role of the kidneys in the maintenance of a relatively constant internal environment was discussed. During the course in Endocrinology the following statement was found in the text which suggested that the thyroid hormone might have an influence …
Anther Development In A Male Sterile Line Of Corn, Richard J. Vogl
Anther Development In A Male Sterile Line Of Corn, Richard J. Vogl
Bachelors’ Theses
Production of viable pollen through growth and differentiation of the anther appears to depend on the interaction of the tapetum and sporogenous tissue. Very little is known about the nature of this interaction. One way to approach this problem is to study the development of the anther in cases where no viable pollen grains are produced. Highly inbred lines of male sterile corn which are completely pollen sterile have been obtained and are available for study.

The Effects Of Fertilizers On The Yield, Carotene Content And Tocopherol Content Of Ranger Alfalfa Hay In Utah, Charles Wm. Jones
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Alfalfa is generally regarded as one of the world's most valuable cultivated forage crops. Few crops, if any, are equal to it in capacity to produce heavy yields of highly nutritious, palatable feed. A combination of desirable attributes as a forage plant and adaptation to a wide diversity of soil and climatic conditions has led to the use of alfalfa in the world to an extent probably exceeding that of any other single legume or grass. Alfalfa constantly proves itself as a valuable feed for most types of livestock. This is especially true in the states where a large amount …
Rearing Calves On Ten Gallons Of Milk, L C. Snook
Rearing Calves On Ten Gallons Of Milk, L C. Snook
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Only a limited number of calves are reared on dairy farms which sell whole milk. At current prices, it is only a very good calf which is worth more than the milk it would consume, and as a result, the heifer calves from thousands of productive cows are each year slaughtered at birth. In the past the whole milk supplier was able to obtain his herd replacements from farmers in the more distant dairying districts who, of necessity sold butterfat and could rear calves on separated milk.
Infectious Pneumonia Of Pigs, C R. Toop
Infectious Pneumonia Of Pigs, C R. Toop
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Infectious pneumonia is by far the most common disease of pigs in Western Australia and 1 is a source of serious loss to the pig industry. It has a wide distribution, and evidence of its existence in one form or another may be found in a large proportion of piggeries throughout the State. It is largely confined to young pigs and is most frequently observed in weaners and slips. For the most part it occurs as a chronic disease with symptoms of coughing, unthnftiness and retarded growth, but it may occasionally assume an acute form accompanied by serious mortality.
