Paleosols Of The Oligocene Of Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Lloyd G. Tanner, Cyril Harvey Mar 1955

Paleosols Of The Oligocene Of Nebraska, C. Bertrand Schultz, Lloyd G. Tanner, Cyril Harvey

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)

Prominent paleosol ("buried" or "fossil" soil) complexes occur at the top of the middle Orella, upper Orella, lower Whitney, and upper Whitney in the Brule formation of Nebraska; and at the top of the "Lower Oreodon," "Middle Oreodon," "Upper Oreodon," and "Leptauchenia" beds in the Brule deposits of South Dakota. These paleosols have regional distribution and appear to be of value in stratigraphic correlations. Major faunal breaks seem to coincide with important buried soil zones, thus indicating that certain paleosols actually represent unconformities. Some of the soils were developed on old land surfaces where deposition was practically at a standstill …

Distributional Studies Of Parasitic Arthropods In Utah Determined As Actual And Potential Vectors Of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever And Plague: With Notes On Vector-Host Relationships, D Elden Beck

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

Through the courtesy of the National Institutes of Health, Grants and Fellowships Division, a project was established at Brigham Young University to study the distribution and host relationships of vectors for Rocky Mountain spotted fever and plague in the state of Utah.

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Of the four capable vectors listed as present in the United States, Dermacentor andersoni and Haemaphysalis leporis palustris are found in Utah. Listed for Utah as potential (experimental) vectors are Dermacentor parumapertus, Dermacentor albipictus, Rhipicephalis sanguineus and Ornithodoros parkeri. Of the potential vectors D. parumapertus is the only species having extensive distribution in Utah. …

Chemistry Faculty Publications

The conditions for the growth of Sterad and isolation of radicinin are described. The formula C12H1205 wasas established for this compound by preparation and analyses of several derivatives. Degradation and spectrophotometric studies were employed to establish the molecular formula. Studies on the mode of action of radicinin revealed that it caused an increase in the rate of dehydrogenation of isopropyl alcohol by FIB, but that it had no effect on the quantity or degree of desaturation of the fat synthesized by FIB

After studying the effect of various substrates and also of certain enzyme inhibitors on the rate of formation of radicinin by Sterad, it is suggested that the carbohydrate molecule is utilized intact in the biosynthesis of radicinin

State Hospitals And Schools For The Handicapped, Don Clayton

SDSU Extension Circulars

All of us have a handicap of one kind or another. We may not be crippled in limb or mentally broken, but most of us do have handicaps that reveal themselves every once in a while. Sometimes we harbor prejudices that cause us to suffer extremely "low vision"; some people are subject to spells of "blind rage" while other "limp" socially on a withered sense of inferiority. All of us have areas and moods which find us "stumbling" in a kind of half-world between the real and the unreal.

Reproduction In The Wolverine, Gulo Gulo, Philip L. Wright, Robert L. Rausch

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications

The reproductive habits of the wolverine, largest of the terrestrial mustelids, have remained largely unknown. Recently Rausch (1953) has concluded that the American and European wolverines belong to the same species (Gulo gulo). In this paper, the reproduction of this species is investigated.

Managing Farm Fishponds For Bass And Bluegills, Verne E. Davison Jan 1955

Managing Farm Fishponds For Bass And Bluegills, Verne E. Davison

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

A Fishpond is a delightful part of a farm or ranch. Where a good site exists for a pond, it makes good use of the land. The impounded water often has other uses too. It adds beauty to the farm and provides recreation for farmers, ranchers, and their friends.

Fishponds are profitable when they are managed well. To produce the most income and home use, they must afford good fishing year after year. Most disappointments result from mistakes in management.

This bulletin points out the importance of good sites and the necessity for erosion control, proper stocking, and weed control. …
