Contributory Role Of Institutional, Legal And Ethical Factors As Precursors Of Consortium Building Readiness Among University Libraries In Southwestern Nigeria, Olalekan Abiola Awujoola, Abiola A. Abioye Professor
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Consortium Building Readiness (CBR) is inevitable for university libraries that intend to provide adequate information resources and services to users. Preliminary investigations showed that efforts at CBR have not been successful in Nigeria. This may be as a result of the unpreparedness among university libraries to provide Institutional Factors–IF (Organisational Culture–OC, Organisational Policy–OP, finance, Power Supply–PS, Internet Connection–IC, ICT Literacy skills–ILS and digitisation), Legal Factors–LF (Governing Law–GL, Log-in-Option–LO, Non-disclosure of Log-in-Option–NDO, Dispute Resolution–DR, Cash Contribution–CC and dissolution) and Ethical Factors–EF (professional and business) to drive Consortium Building (CB). Little attention, however, has been paid to factors that could predict readiness …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Operations and services provided by libraries are seen as social services with a responsibility to encourage society's reading habits, especially in academic settings. The educational, economic, cultural, and recreational life of the whole population are strongly impacted by library services. A special library is known to offer services like interlibrary loan, reference and information, current awareness, selective information dissemination, user education, literature searching, bibliography compilation, indexing and abstracting, knowledge management, preservation and conservation, bindery, information literacy, and information media literacy. The research focuses on the following goals: discovering the library services offered by research libraries in Kwara State; identifying the …

If Not A Transformative Agreement, Then What? Nine Questions And Answers About An Alternative, Arthur J. Boston
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
Librarians are increasingly coming to agree that the scholarly record should be open and available to anyone who seeks it without financial barriers. But the topic gets murkier when we ask the question: how. How do we open the full scholarly record? One of the swiftest ways to get a mass amount of scholarly articles opened up in a short period of time is through Transformative Agreements (TA). TAs can be attractive offerings to institutions with a need or a desire to make their scholarly output open.
It is likely someone in your library has been asked by a …

E-Skills Scarcity And The Digital Records Management Landscape In Zimbabwe, Samson Mutsagondo, Njabulo Bruce Khumalo
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
With the adoption of electronic government in Zimbabwe in 2011, more and more government records are now generated, received, used, maintained, preserved and disposed in electronic form. Use of electronic mail records, word-processed documents, audio-visual records and social media records as official government records is now commonplace. This calls for the mobilisation and hiring of records and information managers with requisite electronic skills to manage such records. This article used the theoretical frameworks of the innovation diffusion theory and the skills theory to show the unprecedent rise in use of digital records as well as the importance in acquisition of …

Evolution Of Research On Prison Library: A Bibliometric Study, Andreu Sulé, Jordi Ardanuy
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The primary objective of the article is to present the historical evolution and current state of research in the field of prison libraries: what has been published, when, where, how and by whom it was published, the topic covered, etc. The study is based on the results obtained from the bibliographic databases LISA (ProQuest) and LISTA (EBSCO Publishing) up to early 2023. Entries were manually checked for irrelevant publications, and filters and specific tools, such as OpenRefine, followed by a final manual check, were used to remove duplicate entries. Understanding The Importance Of Creativity Towards Psychological Safety In The Library Workplace, Jennifer Hopwood Ed.D.
School of Information Student Research Journal
Employee Engagement is one of the leading factors toward organizational success. Happier employees are engaged employees. However, employees cannot reach engagement unless there are feelings of psychological safety. One tool that libraries can utilize to increase the engagement of their staff is to invest in opportunities for workplace creativity.

Navigating An Infodemic: Methods For Teaching Critical Reading In The Health Sciences, Candace K. Vance
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
In difficult times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important that students recognize and question their assumptions regarding how knowledge is recognized as legitimate in their disciplines. “When there is no time for proper peer review, each of us must be our own reviewer.” How can we teach students to recognize flawed methods and data, even when the research may be presented in the top journals as the current best evidence? How do we teach future clinicians to look past the name of the journal or the reputation of the author and learn to discern quality evidence? This …

This article provides an overview of Catholic comics in special collections at the University of Dayton, a brief survey of the history of Catholic comics in the United States, and illustrates examples of active learning and research in special collections through two case studies. The authors …
A Close Look At The Concept Of Authority In Information Literacy, Stefanie Bluemle
A Close Look At The Concept Of Authority In Information Literacy, Stefanie Bluemle
Library and Information Science: Faculty Scholarship & Creative Works
The concept of authority—its definition and the consequences thereof—receives intense scrutiny in library scholarship. This article intervenes in that debate with attention to the larger political context in which the debate is taking place. The article’s purpose is threefold. First, it analyzes the most significant work on authority from philosophy and information studies in order to explicate the concept. Second, it draws on that explication to identify three components of authority that are under-addressed in library literature: a) the distinction between cognitive authority and political authority, b) the means by which authority is recognized or granted to a source, …

Libraries As Community: Investigating Social Infrastructure And Community Cohesion, Mora N. Rehm
Kentucky Journal of Undergraduate Scholarship
Libraries are a form of public infrastructure that guide, protect, and preserve the spirit of community. Established as the guarantor of a peaceful, well-informed society, this research evaluates the library's methods and degree of influence over citizens' feelings of community alongside other social phenomena; looking both within and without existing systems, the researcher posits a model of critical librarianship, acknowledging that current practices reinforce existing structures of inequity and privilege. A methodological investigation is then made into the link between library and community through use of secondary data analysis, concluding that strong library systems positively associate with community cohesion on …
