People V. Jones
Hofstra Law Review

Teacher Collective Bargaining
Fordham Urban Law Journal
This comment discusses the effect of collective bargaining by teachers on the formulation of public policy in education. Teachers usually draw on the expertise of superintendents of schools to advise them on this subject. Agreement terms from New York and California are analyzed. The focus of the analysis deals with the content of the contract and agreement clauses and the extent to which they reflect a shift of control over educational policy in specific subject areas. The emergence of teachers associations and unions has created a new pressure group potentially capable of influencing traditional state prerogatives in educational policy. California …

Case Note: Zoning- Population Control In Metropolitan Areas- Construction Industry Association Of Sonoma County V. City Of Petaluma, 375 F. Supp. 574 (N.D. Cal. 1974), Lane J. Genatowski
Fordham Urban Law Journal
This Casenote analyzes the Northern District of California's recent decision in Construction Industry Association of Sonoma County v. City of Petaluma, 375 F. Supp. 574 (N.D. Cal. 1974), which held that limiting the number of building permits for the purpose of restricting population growth was an unconstitutional infringement on the right to travel, where there is no shortage of municipal facilities to serve the new residence. The Casenote concludes that, although the court had authoritative support for its decision, it may be unwise to use the right to travel to invalidate a local zoning ordinance. Moreover, the right to travel …

Constitutional Law- Obscenity Redefined
Constitutional Law- Obscenity Redefined
University of Richmond Law Review
When Sir Charles Sidlye exhibited himself nude on a balcony in 1663, he undoubtedly did not know his eccentric conduct would foreshadow what has become one of the most troublesome areas of constitutional law. The failure of the Supreme Court to provide clear constitutional guidelines for anti-obscenity legislation has occasioned confusion among state and federal authorities, has precipitated a flood of litigation burdening the Court with the task of reviewing a mass of sexually explicit materials to determine what is and is not obscene, and has engendered widespread criticism of the Court's policy in this area of law.

A Prospectus For Canadian Legal History, R. C. B. Risk
A Prospectus For Canadian Legal History, R. C. B. Risk
Dalhousie Law Journal
The study of legal history can be a useful and scholarly undertaking. An understanding of the uses and limits of law is useful, if not necessary, for any civilized community, and a study of legal history is one way, although not the exclusive way, of achieving this understanding. More generally, our understanding of history cannot be complete without some understanding of its legal elements. Therefore, the study of Canadian legal history should be respectable and flourishing, but it is not. It has been greatly neglected, and most of the little work that has been done has reflected limited interests. Lawyers …

Three Reviews Of R. M. Burns (Ed.), One Country Or Two?, L. C. Green
Dalhousie Law Journal
One Country or Two is an excellent book on the most critical subject faced by Canadians. It discusses Canada's nationhood and the issues of its survival as a political marriage of two peoples and two cultures. Ten main essays are edited by R. M. Burns, introduced by Principal John Deutsch, and provided with a reflective postscript by one of the essayists, Richard Simeon, who reviews some features of Quebec society in the light of the October crisis of 1970. All contributors are English-speaking Canadians and all except three are on the faculty of Queen's University. The essays are not uniform …
