The church's concern for the equal rights of women did not end on June 30th of this year.

On July 1st, in an act of renew al, the Religious Committee for the ERA (RCERA) adopted a new name and an updated agenda. Called the Religious Network for Equality for Women (RNEW), this revitalized effort represents Protectants, Catholics and Jews. RNEW has about forty member organizations.

And plenty was said from November 3-5 in Deerfield, Illinois at a conference entitled, ''Women in Ministry- A Conference for Lutheran Bishops and Staff." Thirty-nine bishops and their assistants met with fifteen lay and ordained women, following through on an idea conceived at the Conference of Ordained Women, held in 1980 to mark the tenth anniversary of the decision by three major Lutheran bodies to ordain women.

The small museum of today is confronted with a multitude of curatorial problems; these decisions ultimately influence the success or failure of the historical agency. A common dilemma in a majority of museums is the proper management of a firearms collection, especially modern military weapons. Due to the lack of qualified museum personnel (people knowledgeable in the administration of firearms) and an acute shortage of comprehensive resource materials, modern arms have been seriously neglected. This situation has resulted in improper conservation methods, ineffectual interpretation and in some instances the complete disregard for a collection of this nature. Saint Benedict’s Monastery Publications

Benedictine sisters and monks administered and staffed a boarding school on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota from 1882-1945, responding to a request from the local bishop and to the Peace Policy of President Grant. Church denominations were asked to cooperate with the government in Christianizing and “civilizing” the Indians—on and off-reservations. With significant aid from federal funds, various denominations, primarily Catholic and Protestant, built churches and schools to educate and “convert” Indians. This was done in the cause of assimilation, with most of the missionaries, lay or religious, deliberately undermining the traditional cultures. Benedictines came late to the Indian …
