The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach With Contingency Management: Examining The Effectiveness Of Relapse Prevention Program For Adolescents, Gwendolyn Bullard
Theses and Dissertations
This applied dissertation was designed to examine the efficacy of the adolescent community reinforcement approach with and without contingency management to improve the lives of adolescents with substance use disorder in relapse prevention programs. Adolescents with substance use disorder do not have access to effective continuing care and relapse prevention in rural towns in the state of Georgia. There is no ongoing care for adolescents with substance use disorder that incorporates a comprehensive treatment plan that includes community reinforcement approaches along with contingency management.
Relying on a multi-element research design, the researcher investigated the interaction between the adolescent community reinforcement …
Parent Participation In Student Academics And Behaviors At An Urban Early Learning Center Utilizing The Two-Generation Approach To Education, Angela E. Hamilton
Parent Participation In Student Academics And Behaviors At An Urban Early Learning Center Utilizing The Two-Generation Approach To Education, Angela E. Hamilton
Theses and Dissertations
The problem in the study was students living in low-income areas, below the poverty level, were vulnerable to experiencing less academic and behavioral success in school. The purpose was to understand how the experiences of parents engaged in a twogeneration approach impacted the success of students living in poverty. The early education and care of young children, especially those of low socioeconomic status, was essential for child development. Children who attended these programs were more likely to develop the necessary skills to become lifelong learners. When children attended early childhood education programs, it helped prepare them cognitively and socially prior …

The Impact Of Effective Teaching In Closing The Achievement Gap For Minority Students Entering Post-Secondary Education: A Case Study, Diamon Cymon Ike Hughes
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this instrumental case study was to explore the practices and strategies utilized by high-performing teachers to impact the learning outcomes for economically disadvantaged and minority students. The theory driving this study was Hattie’s theory of visible learning, which asserts that teaching and learning are the most significant factors impacting student achievement. The study took place at Phoenix Academy Alternative High School. Phoenix is an alternative high school for at-risk students and is a majority economically disadvantaged and minority campus. Participants in the study were teachers who teach core subjects with mandatory passing requirements for student graduation and …

Scaffolded Simulation In Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Education, Lori Bobo, Stacy Mikel, Yolanda Chandler, Hungwei Tseng
Higher Learning Research Communications
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of using scaffolded clinical simulations on nursing students’ confidence in clinical reasoning, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills. Next, we also attempted to gain insights into students’ perceptions of the benefits of scaffolded clinical simulations.
Method: We used a mixed-methods research design to investigate the impacts of using scaffolded clinical simulations on 133 second-semester baccalaureate nursing students’ confidence in clinical reasoning, clinical judgment, and critical thinking skills.
Results: Findings from this study indicate that students who perceived the benefits of scaffolded simulation activities (i.e., peer observations, debriefings, and self-reflections) …

Students’ Optimal Engagement In Efl Large Classes: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study In East Nusa Tenggara, Yohanis Nurak Siwa, Yazid Basthomi
The Qualitative Report
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in researching students’ engagement in English as foreign language (EFL) classes as students’ language learning achievement is shaped by their engagement in class. Yet, the study of students’ engagement in EFL large classes has received relatively little empirical attention. This qualitative phenomenological study aims at exploring how teachers perceive the factors boosting students’ optimal engagement and what strategies they use to boost students’ optimal engagement in EFL large classes. Ten university teachers with adequate experience of teaching EFL large classes in East Nusa Tenggara-Indonesia participated in this study. Semi structured interviews …

Homeless Friendly Campus: An Exploratory Case Study Of University Liaisons, Brandy Gros
Homeless Friendly Campus: An Exploratory Case Study Of University Liaisons, Brandy Gros
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This study aimed to explore how University Liaisons respond to homelessness on their campus. With new federal and state laws being enacted, little research focuses on the policies, programs, and services at universities. Community Colleges tend to be a more attractive option for homeless youth due to the low cost; however, universities are also seeing an increase in the homeless student population, and more research is needed at the university level. The overarching research question is: How are universities' liaisons with state legislation responding to homelessness? This study used a comparative multiple-case study approach to explore how ULs respond to …

Explicit Theory-Informed Clinical Reasoning Curriculum In A Hybrid Learning Physical Therapy Program, Stephanie M. Thurmond, Evan J. Petersen, Steven G. Lesh, Tricia R. Prokop, Allison J. Durham
School of Physical and Occupational Therapy Faculty Publications
Despite agreement among educators that clinical reasoning (CR) is an essential skill for health care professionals, use of explicit, theory-informed CR strategies and tools are lacking in Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) educational programs. The purpose of this commentary is to describe a four-step process whereby CR is implemented as an explicit curricular component in an accelerated, hybrid DPT program. Our process utilized four steps: 1) Identifying relevant literature and theories that informed our current understanding of CR, 2) Creating a programmatic definition of CR, 3) Delineating educational principles and curricular components that operationalize the teaching and assessment of CR, …
