Love For Emily, John Patrick Wall Jun 1989

Love For Emily, John Patrick Wall

The Mythic Circle

I have never actually met my cousin Emily, even though I have known her all of my life. We've talked on the phone often enough, and I keep up a lively correspondence with her.

The Sage And The Tiger, Marjorie Maxwell Jun 1989

The Sage And The Tiger, Marjorie Maxwell

The Mythic Circle

Once upon a time, in a far off remote land there lived a sage. No one knew his name for he had been there, unobtrusively, for as long as the oldest inhabitant could remember.

Love - And Hate - Among The Runes: Two Norse Tales Retold, Douglas A. Rossman

The Mythic Circle

Freya’s Tears: Why must you go, Od?" Freyja's voice was plaintive as, hugging her knees, she sat up on the bearskin rug where they had spent the night. Loki Bound: “Hurry, woman, hurry”! The scream is torn from my lips despite my determination not to acknowledge the pain— the excruciating pain— that wracks my face and chest every time the bowl fills with venom and Sigyn has to leave the cave to empty it.

The Stones Of Mordus, Paul Nolan Hyde

The Leopard Face, Walter Lide

The Mythic Circle

Sangara sat on the dirt floor of a small straw hut she shared with her father, Tanato, and the silence between them seemed as huge as the Great Northland Desert.

Interview With P.C. Hodgell, P. C. Hodgell, Mythic Circle Writers' Roundtable

The Mythic Circle

P.C. Hodgell, author of God Stalk and Dark of the Moon, was one of the many authors who attended Mythcon XIX in Berkeley last summer. She was good enough to meet with the Mythic Circle writers' roundtable and share some of her experiences with us. The following is transcribed from a low-quality tape; when it was possible to recognize a speaker’s voice I have identified them - others are noted as "ct." Hope you enjoy it.

Mythic Circle #8, Lynn Maudlin, Christine Lowentrout Jun 1989

Mythic Circle #8, Lynn Maudlin, Christine Lowentrout

The Mythic Circle

There are lots of things going on in this world and, in the scheme of things, The Mythic Circle is a very small piece indeed. Still, it consumes more of Ye Olde Edytors’ effort and energy than you might imagine. Just about the same time that I found myself wondering, "why are we doing this, anyway?" while we struggled with overloaded schedules and my temporarily bi-coastal lifestyle (back in Altadena now) -- I’d started talking to Christine about whether we should hang up the gloves and climb out of the ring before we’re punch-drunk- the Mythopoeic Society’s members questionnaire started …

English As A Second Language: Evaluation Of A Language Program Designed For & Implemented In The Colombian Oil Company's Research Institute, Patience Nave

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

An incredible proliferation of knowledge has generated a critical need for professionals in all fields to have access to current information and research results. Costs for study and research are extremely high, particularly in science fields, and most professionals seek to minimize loss in time and funds by avoiding duplication of efforts. Language is often a handicap, preventing the voluntary sharing of valuable information between individuals and countries, and many recognize the establishment of a universal language as a means of eliminating this unnecessary barrier. English is rapidly becoming accepted as a universal means of communication, but those who seek …

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In the introduction to The World of the Short Story, Kay Boyle challenges the short story writer "to invest a brief sequence of events with reverberating human significance by means of style, selection and ordering of detail, and -- most important -- to present the whole action in such a way that it is at once a parable and a slice of life, at once symbolic and real, both a valid picture of some phase of experience, and a sudden illumination of one of the perennial moral and psychological paradoxes which lie at the heart of la condition humaine." …
