The Absorption Of Matte By Sodium Carbonate, And The Effect On The Fire-Assay, Leo J. Foster, John Thomas Keenan
The Absorption Of Matte By Sodium Carbonate, And The Effect On The Fire-Assay, Leo J. Foster, John Thomas Keenan
Bachelors Theses
"It has been observed in practical and experimental work, that there is a variation in the fire assay values of some sulphide ores and mattes by the metallic iron method due to the proportions of the reagents used. This is shown in a particular manner in the use of sodium carbonate. there is also a corresponding variation in the amount of matte separating out in the assay by this method. It is a well known fact that mattes absorb both gold and silver and this has always been regarded as one objection to the assay of the ores of those …
Notes On Phelps County Ores, John Morgan Price, Evan Edmund Price
Notes On Phelps County Ores, John Morgan Price, Evan Edmund Price
Bachelors Theses
"In conclusion, summing up the evidence both field and theoretic, there are very good reasons for believing that the deposits which have been worked and are not being worked are not the only deposits of magnitude in the county but by intelligent prospecting along lines already suggested other large and valuable deposits will be found. From the manner of the ores concentration it is not to be expected that every deposit will have a surface outcrop neither is it probable that every depression will be found to contain an ore deposit but when these phenomena occur, together with other evidences …

Design Of A Mill For The Concentration Of An Arkansas Zinc Ore, Ralph Augustus Conrads, Matthew Vincent Quinn
Bachelors Theses

The Design Of A Water Supply System For The Missouri School Of Mines, Lewis Alfred Delano, John Turner Rice
The Design Of A Water Supply System For The Missouri School Of Mines, Lewis Alfred Delano, John Turner Rice
Bachelors Theses
"The supply of water for use in the School of Mines has long been a subject of study and discussion. The school is located in the north end of Rolla, being on the highest part of the Ozark uplift and having an elevation of 1140 ft. above the sea This makes it very difficult for a reservoir of sufficient capacity to be located for the water supply of the city of Rolla. Therefore the city has no water work and it becomes necessary for the School of Mines to furnish its own water"--page 1.

Studies In Ore Deposition, Cyrus Edward Minor
Studies In Ore Deposition, Cyrus Edward Minor
Bachelors Theses
"The artificial preparation of natural occuring sic minerals is a matter of great interest and importance in the study of the conditions and processes involved in the deposition of ores. In a large number of instances, no difficulty is experienced in the laboratory manufacture, e.g. of calcite, arragonite, dolomite, strontianite, gypsum and other similar minerals may be obtained by crystallization out of molten masses, e.g. graphite, diamond, corrundum sic , etc.: still other cases in which special processes have been employed, have led to the production of compounds in the form in which they occur naturally. the facts so accumulated …

Drainage Of Mines, William Melvin Weigel
Drainage Of Mines, William Melvin Weigel
Professional Degree Theses
"Before going into the means employed for unwatering a mine, let us consider:--
I. The causes of Occurrence of water in Mines. The drainage of a mine is one of the operations, which, without contributing directly to the output is indispensible in carrying on the work.
By drainage we designate not only the means employed for preventing the influx of water into the workings, but also the means employed of getting rid of what inevitably finds its way into the workings in greater or less quantity.
The water in the mine obtains entrance in various ways.
Sometimes it merely filters …
Cyanide Practice, John A. Rogers
Cyanide Practice, John A. Rogers
Professional Degree Theses
"The ENCINO CYANIDE PLANT was erected for the treatment of old accumulated tailings, which were worked by the "Patio" and "Cazo" processes. As with most accumulated tailings, which have been exposed to the action of the air for a considerable period, they have undergone changes, whereby, forming compounds which are highly detrimental to a solution of Potassium Cyanide and the direct cause of the present high consumption of Cyanide"--page 1.

Methods Of Discharge Measurements Of Streams, Royal Sylvester Webster, Walter Adams Luther
Bachelors Theses
"The method of determining the discharge of large streams is that in which the area of cross section is multiplied by the velocity per. sec. of the water passing through the section. The velocity can be measured by the following methods: 1. By floats. 2. Current Meters. 3. Pitots tube. 4. Can be determined by use of Kutter's formula"--page 1.

The Electrolytic Refining Of Copper, Lewis S. Logan, Frank R. Bell
Bachelors Theses
"Although copper can be separated from its solution by means of the electric current and the amount so separated varies directly as the current, there is a point in each and every solution where on account of the energy given off to the ions, the copper will be carried over in a more or less impure state, depending upon the strength of the current, the strength of the solution, whether it is saturated or only partly saturated, or whether normal basic or acid and also upon the amount of impurities in the solution. It is the purpose of this thesis (1) …
The Destructive Distillation Of Pine Sawdust, Frederick Hauenstein, Herbert Arno Roesler
The Destructive Distillation Of Pine Sawdust, Frederick Hauenstein, Herbert Arno Roesler
Bachelors Theses
"In many of the pine regions of the South, the operation of saw mills gives rise to immense quantities of waste products, such as slabs and sawdust. The sawdust especially, is of no practical value, accumulating in vast amounts; and, being very difficult to burn or otherwise dispose of, becomes a nuisance around the camp. The object of this thesis is to devise some means of utilizing the sawdust by recovering such constituents as might be of commercial importance "--page 1.

Report Of Coal Prospect, And Subsequent Development, John Adrian Garcia
Professional Degree Theses
"In the fall of 1901, the writer was engaged by the Republic Coal Mining Company of Aurora Springs, Miller County, Missouri, as Engineer in charge of operations connected with the opening up of their coal mine. The data in this report was never submitted to the owners of the property, because of a request from them that the work of opening up be pushed as rapidly as possible, and [the] mine be put in condition to ship coal; and because the data embraced facts already known to the management, who were determined to open the property regardless of the evidence …

Bachelors Theses
"PRELIMINARY STATEMENT with reference to the formation of limonite and hematite, the principal iron ores of the Ozark District. Iron and copper in solution as sulphides, coming in contact with lime or magnesium carbonates, will be precipitated as pyrite or marcasite and chalcopyrite. Hence the origin of this class or ores. These will in time oxidize to magnetite or hematite, and these in turn will form limonite, and the copper sulphide, or chalcopyrite, is oxidized to the carbonates, malachite and azurite"--page 1.

Aluminum As A Commercial Conductor Of Electric Energy, George Edwin Lyman, Edward J. Morris
Aluminum As A Commercial Conductor Of Electric Energy, George Edwin Lyman, Edward J. Morris
Bachelors Theses
"In considering the adaptability of any metal to serve as a distributing agent of electrical energy, the investigation must shape itself along three lines, viz, - the electrical, the physical and the chemical properties which the metal may possess. Evidently a deficiency in any of these properties, if serious, will debar it from successfully coping in the market with its competitors. A metal may have excellent conductivity and its behavior electrically may be thoroughly satisfactory, but if it lacks strength, physically, or ability to resist the destructive forces of the atmosphere, chemically, it is obviously inadaquate sic to serve as …
