Illustration Of The Concentration And Flintshire Furnace Treatment Of Lead Ores At The Desloge Mines, Missouri, A. H. Ohmann-Dumesnil
Professional Degree Theses
"The Desloge Mines, the subject of the present thesis, are situated in Township 37 North and Range 4 East, St. Francois Co. Mo. and are directly north of the St. Joe mines. They are 10 miles distant, in a north-easterly direction, from Cadet, a station on the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Rail-Road 57 miles from St. Louis. hough Cadet is insignificant in point of population, still as a shipping point, it ranks high among those in South East Missouri; since it is the depôt and entrepôt for the Desloge, St. Joe and Old Mines....

Fire Clays And Refractory Materials, James A. Pack
Fire Clays And Refractory Materials, James A. Pack
Professional Degree Theses
“Nor did the primitive metallurgists who were the first to apply this iron rock to practical use imagine, as they toiled over their unsightly furnaces made of common sun dried clay in which there could not be generated sufficient heat to reduce the iron to a liquid form, and to the top of which the smelter might reach with his hand, that in the future this metal would need to be smelted in furnaces that would reach to the tops of their very temples, and at a temperature that would defy the resistance of the firmest granite.
But yet these …
Silver Amalgamation, James A. Pack
Silver Amalgamation, James A. Pack
Professional Degree Theses
"The process of amalgamation is one of the oldest known methods of extracting silver from its ores. The process arose from the finding of rich silver ores in districts where little or no fuel existed.
This method of silver extraction has been known and used for over three hundred years; but the method of pan amalgamation which came into use much later and has been so fully developed under American management is the one which we will here consider.
The process of pan amalgamation is peculiarly adapted to certain mining districts of the western territory of the United States"--page 2.
Maramec Bridge, Thomas H. Millsaps
Maramec Bridge, Thomas H. Millsaps
Professional Degree Theses
"Bridge-building, as a science, is comparatively of recent date, for relating to now, of what may be called ancient bridges, do we read of them having been mathematical calculations, determining the strains upon the constituent parts of the bridge structure. This very necessary operation seems to have been entirely omitted. This was, probably, because to that time, there had been no thoroughly scientific investigation, of the new and beautiful subject of scientific bridge-building. At the present time, we determine with a minuteness the strain thrown upon any part of a bridge. We are thus enabled to give the proper dimensions …

"The road begins at the intersection of the east line of the Stockyards stalls, with the Saint Louis and San Francisco Rail Road. In this road, which is 9735 feet long, there is six pieces each of alternate curved, and straight track. The first piece of track, which is curved, is a 6⁰ curve, to the right (going westward) and contains 13 chords of 100 feet.
Following this is a tangent of 400 feet. And then in succession: A 10⁰ curve, to the left; 10 chords; a tangent of 100 feet a 10⁰ curve, to the right, 8.5 chords; a …
Project For The Treatment Of An Iron Ore, James A. Pack
Project For The Treatment Of An Iron Ore, James A. Pack
Professional Degree Theses
"So great is the degree of perfection that marks the various processes of iron production that it seems almost useless to essay to further study a subject which has received the best thoughts and lifetime labors of the greatest metallurgists of all ages. Yet as we believe that there are still isolated cases whose various conditions have not received that consideration necessary to the most economical production of the pug; and believing that a most perfect knowledge of these conditions is essential to the final perfection of the metallurgy; and knowing further that a wide extended interchange of experience and …

"The Iron deposit locally Known as "Bucklands Bank" is situated in the south half of Sec. 20. T. 37 R. 8 west Phelps County Missouri, about four (4) and a half (1/2) miles west of Rolla and on the line of the Atlantic and Pacific R.R.
It was opened by Sen. T. C. Buckland of St. Louis in 18--, but subsequently was leased to Mr. Wm. James of St. James, who shipped the ore for treatment at the Ozark Furnace five and a half (5 1/2) miles further westward on the railroad.
The deposit is classified by Schmidt* as a …

Limes, Mortars, And Cements, Cyrus G. Emerson
Professional Degree Theses
"Lime, considered as a building material, is not usually regarded as comprehending three principal varieties - viz: Common or air lime, Hydraulic lime, and Hydraulic cement.
The common or air lime, is so called because the paste made from it with water will harden only in air. Lime is made by burning limestone in kilns suitably arranged for that purpose. Two classes of such kilns are in general use; the intermittent or flare kiln and the draw or perpetual kiln."--page 1.

Copper Ores And Deposits Of Shannon County, Missouri, John D. Greason
Professional Degree Theses
"The deposits of copper at present opened in shannon County belong to the Consolidated Land Company of Missouri. They are situated in the N.W. 1/4, N.E. 1/4, Sec. 36, Town. 29, Range 4, about one and a half miles south-westerly from Emminence, the county seat of Shannon County. Illustrations Of The Treatment Of Nickeliferous Ores At Mine La Motte, Madison County, Missouri, William C. Minger
Professional Degree Theses
"The Mine la Motte property consists of a tract of about 24000 acres situated in the counties of Madison and St. Francois, principally in the former, however. It has been worked since the year 1720, and besides its historical interest is certainly one of the most important mines in the state, as regards both the capitalist and scientist. These facts warrant a detailed description of the mines, and the methods of working which are in vogue there, these being necessary to any one who would realize their magnitude and importance. The property is situated about 100 miles southeast of St. …

Toward A Fair Transactive Energy Market: A Deeplearning Based Energy Consumption Prediction Model, Yuka Hatori
Toward A Fair Transactive Energy Market: A Deeplearning Based Energy Consumption Prediction Model, Yuka Hatori
Computer Science and Engineering Master's Theses
The application of machine learning is vast and quickly spreading across disciplines because of its versatile utility. By nature, machine learning implementations can quickly be obfuscated and ultimately introduce and perpetuate discriminatory practices, which leads to the issue of fairness. Transactive energy and the distribution of energy management technologies allow for new participants, meaning individual households and entities smaller than large energy providers, to enter the market to buy and sell energy. Machine learning has potential for meaningful use in many aspects of the transactive energy market process, and we focus on the specific aspect of how individual households can …
