Studies Of Antimony Occurrence With Special Relation To Its Effective Extraction, San Jose Antimony Mines, Wadley, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, J. C. Archibald Jr.

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The mines at San Jose which are within the Wadley unit are the largest antimony mines in Mexico. These mines produce more than half of the antimony produced by the company from its mining operations. Since the time of the author's connection with the company, a number of changes have been made in planning of development work, handling of labor, methods of mine development, cost improvement, and other problems inherent in the successful guidance of an operation.

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

In 1951, Army Medical Service (AMS) was the technical service that provided medical supplies, equipment, and services to the army. A Survey Of Acidity In Drainage Waters And The Condition Of Highway Drainage Installations, James H. Havens, James L. Young Jr., Harvey J. Field Jr. Dec 1950

A Survey Of Acidity In Drainage Waters And The Condition Of Highway Drainage Installations, James H. Havens, James L. Young Jr., Harvey J. Field Jr.

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Every creek gulley and raw interrupted by roadway fills and embankments must be provided with an adequate drainage conduit under the pavement. If the natural drainage is impeded or the conduit is not functioning properly, impounded water over-runs the pavement, seeps through the fill, and eventually disintegrates the section or reduces its stability. The topography in Kentucky, through varied sectionally, requires on the average, one cross-drain for every thousand feet of roadway. Obviously, these drainage structures are of considerable economic importance in the highway program, not only from the standpoint of initial construction costs, but also from consideration of the …

Soft X-Rays, William F. Roherty Jun 1950

Soft X-Rays, William F. Roherty

Bachelors’ Theses

Traditionally, radiation of those wavelengths produced by a potential of from 2 to 25kv. has been classified as "Grenz" or "soft" x-rays. The peculiar property of this radiation is its low penetrating power. While being transparent to more energetic radiation, animal tissue and similar materials are sufficiently opaque to Grenz rays as to be studied in detail. Since the radiation is of the continuous type, it can be made soft enough to reveal any object, providing, of course, that the tube window and object medium be not opaque. Soft x-rays are produced in exactly the same manner as others, except …

Development, Application And Operating Results Of The Center Peripheral Discharge Rod Mill, David Porter Hale Jan 1950

Development, Application And Operating Results Of The Center Peripheral Discharge Rod Mill, David Porter Hale

Professional Degree Theses

"The use of a rod mill for producing manufactured sand is not a recent application. A Marcy Open End Rod Mill has been operating at the plant of the Sun Sand Company, Thayer, West Virginia, since 1925. In early 1940 an 8' x 12' rod mill of the open end type was installed at Shasta. Dam, near Redding, California for sand production. In 1942 work began on Fontana Dam, a Tennessee Valley Authority Project on the Little Tennessee River. The flow sheet included two 9' x 12' high discharge rod mills driven by a single 800 H.P. motor. All of …

Safety And Health In Mining, John Philip Lacke Jan 1950

Safety And Health In Mining, John Philip Lacke

Masters Theses

"The mining industry has long been criticised severely because of its high rate of accident occurrence. Statistics, which, however, are not strictly comparable show that the accident-frequency rate in all mining is currently about three times and the accident severity rate is about seven times as great as the average for general industrial work in the United States. Figures such as these are by no means comforting to mining men. They constitute a challenge to the industry that cannot be ignored.

It must be remembered that any type of mining is more hazardous than most or the other major occupations. …

Dust Control In Mining Industry And Some Aspects Of Silicosis, Mathuramuthoo Subramanyam Jan 1948

Dust Control In Mining Industry And Some Aspects Of Silicosis, Mathuramuthoo Subramanyam

Masters Theses

"The deleterious effect on human beings of dust in mine air is well-known. It is the duty of engineers, therefore, to take measures to eliminate it. It is now definitely established that of all the various types of dust encountered in mine air, silica dust is the most harmful. This dust, if inhaled over a period of time, causes the disease, silicosis, which in most countries is compensated for as a physical disability. The prevention of alleviation of this scourge is analyzed in three broad aspects: 1. If the mine air is as clean as outside atmospheric air, silicosis will …

The Corrosion Resistance Of Iron-Tin Compacts As Produced By Powder Metallurgy, Robert W. Gambill May 1947

The Corrosion Resistance Of Iron-Tin Compacts As Produced By Powder Metallurgy, Robert W. Gambill

Nebraska Farm Building Data For South-Central Counties Taken From U.S. Census, R. M. Loper Jan 1946

Nebraska Farm Building Data For South-Central Counties Taken From U.S. Census, R. M. Loper

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

The Material given on the following pages was selected from United States Census data for the years indicated.

It has been arranged to permit analysis and comparison of building trends since 1900, both in the state and in individuals counties. Such a study often reveals areas in which effective educational programs could be developed and indicates the phases of such programs which are needed most.

Unfortunately, complete 1945 figures are not available yet, but space has been left for them so that they may be added when released by the Census Bureau.

Nebraska Farm Building Data For North-East Counties Taken From U.S. Census, R. M. Loper

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications

Fluctuation in the number of farms since the start of the century reflects economic trends, drouth effects and the results of increasing mechanization, particularly since 1935.

The 1945 figures also show the influence of land taken out of production for use as air bases, ordnance plants and ammuition depots. No doubt some of this will be returned eventually to agricultural uses. Since the buildings were removed from this land during the war some new sets probably. will be constructed when individual ownership is obtained again. Such activities present excellent opportunities for developing farmsteads efficiently and attractively arranged; buildings designed to …
