The Factors Influencing The Price Of Metals On The Metal Market, Thomas Patrick F. Walsh
The Factors Influencing The Price Of Metals On The Metal Market, Thomas Patrick F. Walsh
Masters Theses
"Every year the various engineering and industrial magazines print curves showing the rise and fall of metal stocks throughout the year. to the ordinary reader, these curves are seldom intelligible; he sees the ups and downs; he knows that the prices have risen and fallen; but he rarely knows what causes these changes -- and the curves themselves never tell. This paper tries to remedy this defect; it draws its curves, and, in the light of historical events, which it recounts, tries to determine the causes for the fluctuations in the market. it further places these factors on the curve …
Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson
Graphics And Its Application To The Progress And Cost Analyses Of A House Building Construction Company, Frank Lewis Leonard Wilson
Masters Theses
"In the graphical analyses of Stresses in Framed Structures, we study, by means of diagrams, the stability or equilibrium of structures and the relation between the external forces and the stresses created in the members of the frame. The principle involved is that we may represent any force both as to direction and intensity by a straight line, by considering the direction of the line to be identical with that of the force and adjusting its length according to any arbitrary unit adopted for the forces under consideration. By this means we can solve the stresses in framed structures with …
Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase
Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars
The condition of the corn at filling time, the rate of filling, and the length of time settling has taken place before measuring the depth of the silage, all tend to cause variations in the weight per cubic foot of the silage and in the tonnage that can be placed in a silo. The greatest variation comes when very green corn or very ripe corn is used, and because of this it is possible that a cubic foot of green silage, which may weigh fifty pounds, holds no more dry matter than a cubic foot of overripe silage which weighs …
Chemical Control Work In The N. K. Fairbanks Factories, John Whittlesey Bodman
Chemical Control Work In The N. K. Fairbanks Factories, John Whittlesey Bodman
Professional Degree Theses
"We propose to discuss in this thesis the organization of the N. K. Fairbank Company, particularly with reference to the duties of the Chemical Division, Operating Department in this organization. From a broad viewpoint, we believe that the particular organization by with the N. K. Fairbank Company secures application of its chemical ability to manufacturing operations as well as to special problems, is characteristic of a widespread movement taking place for recognition of the chemical engineer in industry. This is particularly true in those industries where manufacturing operations are based primarily upon practical applications of chemical principles"--Abstract, page 1.
Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez
Practical Details Of Mine Surveying In Certain Mines Of Northern Mexico, Arturo C. Fernandez
Bachelors Theses
"The name of this thesis is suggestive of its character. The writer has endeavored to resent in a general way some of the most important details of mine surveying as he has found them in actual practice. For the sake of uniformity the engineering staff in which he worked prepared a set of instructions to be used by the engineers at the various mines. The methods and illustrations described in this paper have been adapted from these instructions and they afford a thorough foundation ready to receive the minor details best adapted to each particular mining district"--Foreword, page ii.
Simple Methods And Tables For Determining True Meridian, Howard Jones Teas
Simple Methods And Tables For Determining True Meridian, Howard Jones Teas
Bachelors Theses
"The ordinary methods of determining the true meridian by observation on either Polaris or the sun are so tedious to calculate that most surveyors and students dread making them. Observation on Polaris at either elongation or clumination sic require less calculation and are much simpler, but this simplicity is offset by the fact that they must be taken at an exact instant. If a cloud crosses the sky at the time, the surveyor has to wait until the next night. then again the observer must know the date, exact longitude and latitude and correct time for making the observation, and …
A Thesis Presented To The President And The Faculty Of Marquette University For The Degree Of Bachelor Of Science In Civil Engineering And Bachelor Of Science In Electrical Engineering, Anthony B. Czachurski, Benjamin D. Ratke, Joseph G. Casey, William H. Stephan
Stephan
Bachelors’ Theses
In the work covered by this thesis it is desired to examine an undeveloped water power for the purpose of producing electrical energy as a commercial comodity. Experience has taught that it is best to ascertain first where the product will find its market, and to follow up a satisfactory showing at that end by determining the power capacity of the source, the feasibility of harnessing the same, and the cost of accomplishing this. This program would be adopted in any commercial enterprise to insure a reliable conclusion, and will be followed as closely as possible in the work covered …

The Development Of A Copper-Silver Ore Body, Colwell Arba Pierce
The Development Of A Copper-Silver Ore Body, Colwell Arba Pierce
Bachelors Theses
"During the years 1912 to 1915 the writer had charge of the Ruby Copper Company property near Patagonia, Arizona, and it was suggested that a review of this work, with costs and data, would be helpful to other engineers engaged in similar enterprises"--Introduction, page 2.
Pneumatic Ore Concentration, Robert Winters Johnson, Walter William Weissbach
Pneumatic Ore Concentration, Robert Winters Johnson, Walter William Weissbach
Bachelors Theses
"The concentration of lead and zinc ores by means of air is practically an unexplored field, although the subject is by no means a new one. Considerable research work has been done and several methods, processes and machines have been developed, but little or nothing has been accomplished towards making air separation a success. the lack of success has been due mainly to two reasons:- (1) That very little has been known about the internal conduct of air currents, and (2) that nearly all methods and machines so far worked out have presupposed the fact that the ore to be …
Notes On The Development Of The Flotation Process For Concentrating Copper And Iron Sulphide Ore, Holman Thompson Marshall
Notes On The Development Of The Flotation Process For Concentrating Copper And Iron Sulphide Ore, Holman Thompson Marshall
Bachelors Theses
"The first flotation machines was installed at the Magna Mill of the Utah Copper Co. in August and September, 1914. The outbreak of the war in Europe having made necessary the shutting down of the Arthur Mill of the same company, the flotation plant was installed at Magna for the purpose of carrying on experiments which had been in process at Arthur. Enough experimentation had been done with the small laboratory machine at Arthur, and results obtained were favorable enough to warrant the installation of a full size Janney machine"--page 1.
Commutation, John Th. Mueller, Edward J. Blackwell
Commutation, John Th. Mueller, Edward J. Blackwell
Bachelors’ Theses
The E.M.F. induced in the armature conductors of practically all direct current generators is alternating, and in order to obtain a unidirectional E.M.F. at the terminals of the the machine, it is necessary to reverse the connection at the moment the induced E.M.F. changes its direction.
Test Of A 400 Pound Refrigerating Plant, Louis C. Fenelon, George C. Hoffman, Thomas H. Noon, John T. Watry
Test Of A 400 Pound Refrigerating Plant, Louis C. Fenelon, George C. Hoffman, Thomas H. Noon, John T. Watry
Bachelors’ Theses
The primary object of these tests was to obtain the capacity of the refrigerating plant under various conditions of suction and condenser pressure.
The secondary object was to obtain the cost of electric current and water per ton of ice melting capacity.
Incidental objects pertained to heat transmission per sq. ft. of surface through the cooling coil.
