Existing literature suggests that infection-specific mechanisms may play a significant role in the onset and progression of dementia, as opposed to the broader phenomenon of systemic inflammation. In addition, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl (HMG)-coenzyme A (CoA) reductase inhibitors have been proposed as a potential therapeutic approach for sepsis, given their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. We investigated the neuroprotective effect of an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (simvastatin) by analyzing neurodegenerative markers, mitochondrial respiration, and neuronal tracing in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and thalamic nucleus reuniens (RE) of sepsis survivor animals. Adult Wistar rats were subjected to sepsis by cecal ligation and puncture or left non-manipulated. …
Robust Voltage Regulation For Dc Microgrids Via Passivity-Based Sliding Mode Control, Edoardo Vacchini, Michele Cucuzzella, Pablo Borja, Antonella Ferrara
Robust Voltage Regulation For Dc Microgrids Via Passivity-Based Sliding Mode Control, Edoardo Vacchini, Michele Cucuzzella, Pablo Borja, Antonella Ferrara
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
This paper proposes a decentralized sliding mode control approach to the voltage regulation problem in a DC microgrid consisting of distributed generation units interconnected with each other through resistive-inductive power lines and supplying unknown nonlinear loads. In particular, the port-Hamiltonian structure of the system suggests the design of a suitable sliding manifold such that the system on this manifold exhibits desired passivity properties. This approach simplifies the control design and relaxes some restrictive assumptions required by other controllers proposed in the literature, while offering satisfactory performance.

In this nonpayment proceeding, the court issued an Interim Order to Correct, requiring the landlord to address multiple housing code violations, including mold and a broken toilet, within specific timeframes. The court found that the uninhabitable conditions in the apartment, including the broken toilet, necessitated the issuance of a Class C violation. This order was issued without prejudice to the landlord's defenses in an anticipated Housing Part proceeding brought by the tenant.

Fewer than half of individuals with a suspected Mendelian or monogenic condition receive a precise molecular diagnosis after comprehensive clinical genetic testing. Improvements in data quality and costs have heightened interest in using long-read sequencing (LRS) to streamline clinical genomic testing, but the absence of control data sets for variant filtering and prioritization has made tertiary analysis of LRS data challenging. To address this, the 1000 Genomes Project (1KGP) Oxford Nanopore Technologies Sequencing Consortium aims to generate LRS data from at least 800 of the 1KGP samples. Our goal is to use LRS to identify a broader spectrum of variation …

The human auditory cortex is organized according to the timing and spectral characteristics of speech sounds during speech perception. During listening, the posterior superior temporal gyrus is organized according to onset responses, which segment acoustic boundaries in speech, and sustained responses, which further process phonological content. When we speak, the auditory system is actively processing the sound of our own voice to detect and correct speech errors in real time. This manifests in neural recordings as suppression of auditory responses during speech production compared with perception, but whether this differentially affects the onset and sustained temporal profiles is not known. …

C-Day Computing Showcase
E.coli contamination in surface waters has proven to be a significant public health concern, requiring innovative monitoring solutions. This paper presents the design of an AI-driven mobile application to predict whether E.coli bacteria are present at levels exceeding acceptable thresholds in surface waters. The methodology employs sensor devices to collect water quality data parameters, such as water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity. A dataset is generated based on these parameters, and machine learning (ML) algorithms are applied to evaluate accuracy, precision, recall, and processing time. Additionally, our ML algorithms establish a correlation matrix among water quality parameters to identify …

Behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) are detrimental to the quality of life for individuals with ADRD and their caregivers. Symptoms such as wandering, agitation, and confusion can often overwhelm caregivers leading to stress, depression, or burnout which can lead to a decrease in the quality of care. These challenges often result in increased hospitalizations and care costs, creating a need for a solution to support informal caregivers. This project proposes the development of an AI-based Dementia Care Voice Assistant application to meet the needs of caregivers. Using large language models, the application will provide real-time and …

911 is often the first place contacted for dealing with behavioral health related (BHR) issues. Its estimated at least a fifth of all calls are related to behavioral health, and with BHR affected convicts having a recidivism rate of around 30%, its not hard to see how straining these issues can become on systems already stretched thin, where chronic understaffing is often a reality. A great solution would be if we could intervene as soon as possible to get people the treatment they need, police reports would be excellent for identifying and treating these individuals, but annotation is a long …

Gpr-6128 Joint Encryption And Error Correction For Quantum Communication, Nitin Jha
Gpr-6128 Joint Encryption And Error Correction For Quantum Communication, Nitin Jha
C-Day Computing Showcase
Secure quantum networks are foundational for developing a quantum internet in the future. However, current age quantum channels are prone to noise, which can introduce errors in transmitted data. Traditionally, error correction is applied to the message separately, after encryption, resulting in additional overhead that should be minimized. In response, we propose a unified approach that combines encryption and error correction into a single process. This work represents an initial effort to integrate these functions for secure quantum communication by integrating the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) Quantum Error Correction (QECC) code with the three-stage secure quantum communication protocol. Additionally, the protocol supports …

Intergenerational Art: A Cultural Perspective, Steve Willis
International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education
This paper will present the experiences that I had with two female Elders in the Acoma Pueblo. By working with a traditional Acoma family, I gained an intimate view of the positionality of the family structure, intergenerational teaching, and the Acoma culture. Like my experiences with many Eastern Tribes (my ancestral lineage is with the Powhaton Society), the Acoma culture is a matrilineal society. This paper will include anecdotal narratives along with images of the Pueblo, Sky City, and traditional ceramic forms. I will present the sacredness of the environment through art-making and art-sharing between generations. The two Acoma Elders …
