A Study Of Montana Bentonite, William P. Ryan

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Research has been undertaken both under Government and private auspices in an endeavor to develop uses for bentonite. Perhaps, the work done to date has had only in consideration the possible industrial importance of bentonite. No simple, quick methods for the determination of the properties or qualities of any particular bentonite have been developed.

In an attempt to establish whether or not there is a means of making rapid simple determinations of the quality of Montana bentonitic clays, and in particular, with regard to the uses to which the clays may be suited. The problem also involves a study of …

Playgrounds And Recreation Areas In Real Estate Subdivisions, Joseph L. Doyle

Bachelors’ Theses

With the coming of the machine age, the need of adequate playground and recreation areas in large cities is steadily increasing. During the past ten years, or more, congested cities have found it necessary to supply at any cost, playground and. recreation areas, for their people, who from year to year find that they have more and more leisure time at their disposal. In an unlimited number of instances the only way this could be secured was by buying valuable land, wrecking the buildings thereon, and thus provide open spaces for recreation at an enormous cost to the city. Had …

Fundamentals Of Bridge Design, Albert C. Kalmbach May 1932

Fundamentals Of Bridge Design, Albert C. Kalmbach

Bachelors’ Theses

Man's earliest communication followed: water routes. Our prehistoric ancestors, evidence shows, fashioned boats and rafts which enabled them to travel along the rivers, and later to sail the seas. Following history through the years we will find man always developing theater routes for transportation before other methods. The early colonies in our America were along the coastal rivers; the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys were first settled in the interior.

A Study Of The Plating Prohibitive Properties Of Various Separators, Bruno J. Pozorski May 1931

A Study Of The Plating Prohibitive Properties Of Various Separators, Bruno J. Pozorski

Bachelors’ Theses

The problem of this thesis is to study the plating prohibitive properties of the various materials commonly used in the manufacturing of separators, and to indicate which material would be most serviceable and feasible in a separator. At one time positives and negatives were kept not more than 0.25 inches apart, with the idea of reducing the intervening layers of electrolyte, and, therefore, the internal resistance of the cell, as much as possible. It was, however, found that the output could actually be increased by putting the plates at greater distances, the fact being that the larger bulk of solution …

The above graphitic materials break down under treatment into a rather peculiar clay which was called primary colloidal slime. The milling process in use consists of stamp milling followed by the separation into sand and primary slime in Dorr Duplex Classifiers. The primary slime overflow from these classifiers, which is all practically thru 220 mesh, is thickened and treated by flotation. Normally and with a good supply of …

The Transmission Of Pressure In The Dry Pressing Of Typical Building Brick And Fire Brick Mixes As Affected By The Variation In Grog Size, Stanley John Tompach Jan 1931

The Transmission Of Pressure In The Dry Pressing Of Typical Building Brick And Fire Brick Mixes As Affected By The Variation In Grog Size, Stanley John Tompach

Bachelors Theses

"In the formation of dry pressed ware, the transmission of pressure is of vital importance to the quality and character of the finished product as regards the resistance to spalling, load at high temperatures, slag action, abrasion and other physical properties. Furthermore, the transmission of pressure is a limiting factor as regards the size and irregularity of shape of a product manufactured by the dry press process. Prior to the time of this investigation several companies have succeeded in producing ware up to six (6) inches in depth; but an increase over six inches has resulted, in every case, in …

An Investigation Of The Mechanics Of Oil Migration From The Source Beds To The Reservoir Beds, William Reed Quilliam

Professional Degree Theses

"The study of the migration and accumulation of petroleum has very naturally been analytic, with the result that we have had a variety of studies of its several features. the generation of petroleum, its migration and its accumulation in reservoir rocks is not a rapid process which may be accomplished and terminated in a comparatively short time, but one of long and almost continuous operation from the time of its inception. In this study the author is not attempting to formulate a new theory for the movement of oil from its point of origin to its final point of accumulation …

A Study Of The Iodine Content Of Representative Missouri Waters, Edmond Carl Hunze Jan 1927

A Study Of The Iodine Content Of Representative Missouri Waters, Edmond Carl Hunze

Masters Theses

"Investigations have shown that the iodine content of natural waters bears a direct relationship to the goiter incidence of a given region. A number of the states have analysed [sic] their water for this constituent in the development of this hypothesis. A search of the literature revealed the fact that with the exception of two instances the iodine content of Missouri water had not been determined. Since in certain regions of Missouri there is quite a prevalence of goiter, it was deemed important to determine the iodine content of Missouri waters. It was believed that such information would be a …

Economic Geology Of Northern Angola, Artileus Vosteen Eulich Jan 1924

Economic Geology Of Northern Angola, Artileus Vosteen Eulich

Professional Degree Theses

"Most of the mineral deposits have been known to exist for over a generation but efforts to mine them usually met with failure. The most signal discovery, that of diamonds, was made only in recent years. They are the only substance coming under the category of mineral which are being exploited on a large scale. Energetic efforts are being made to find petroleum in commercial quantities. There are still vast areas practically unexplored which if thoroughly prospected might lead to more discoveries. It is difficulty, however, for one who has prospected for two years in Angola without any particular success …

Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase Jun 1917

Measuring Silage And Capacity Of Silos, L. W. Chase

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

The condition of the corn at filling time, the rate of filling, and the length of time settling has taken place before measuring the depth of the silage, all tend to cause variations in the weight per cubic foot of the silage and in the tonnage that can be placed in a silo. The greatest variation comes when very green corn or very ripe corn is used, and because of this it is possible that a cubic foot of green silage, which may weigh fifty pounds, holds no more dry matter than a cubic foot of overripe silage which weighs …
