The Relation Of The Composition Of Petroleum To Its Origin And Occurrence, John Warder Shotwell Jan 1915

The Relation Of The Composition Of Petroleum To Its Origin And Occurrence, John Warder Shotwell

Bachelors Theses

"Petroleum Is a mixture of hydrocarbons. It is a liquid varying from colorless, through yellow and brown to black. It varies from 1.0 to 0.80 in specific gravity, which corresponds to 10° to 45° Beaume. It varies widely in physical properties, such as viscosity, ignition point, polarization of light, etc. Chemically it is composed essentially of carbon and hydrogen, but usually contains impurities such as sulphur and nitrogen. The carbon and hydrogen combine with each other to form certain series, or "chains"--Chemical and Physical Nature, page 1.

The Chemical Constituents Of Cast Iron And Their Effect On Its Physical Properties, Frank H. Paatsch Jun 1914

The Chemical Constituents Of Cast Iron And Their Effect On Its Physical Properties, Frank H. Paatsch

Bachelors’ Theses

Carbon is an element of great importance and very - extensively diffused in nature. It exists in large quantities in the mineral kingdom and is the most abundant constituent of animal and vegetable matter. It assumes a greater number of aspects than any of the elements we deal with in connection with iron. In the crystallized state it constitutes the diamond and more or less pure, it forms the substance called plumbago, graphite, black-lead, anthracite and bituminous coal, coke, animal and vegetable charcoal.

The Determination Of The Electrical Resistance Of The Human Body Under Conditions To Be Met Within Underground Mining, Duncan S. Smith, Paul E. Coaske Jan 1911

The Determination Of The Electrical Resistance Of The Human Body Under Conditions To Be Met Within Underground Mining, Duncan S. Smith, Paul E. Coaske

Bachelors Theses

"The use of electric wires in mines for power purposes is dangerous to human life. Deaths occur every year from electric shocks, and in most cases these accidents could have been prevented if some precaution had been taken by the victims, or if some care had been taken to protect them from coming in contact with live wires. Most workingmen accustomed to working around electric wires become careless and a lack of knowledge of the danger involved gives rise to the many accidents that occur each year...The object of this investigation is to determine just what resistance the human body …

Prospecting In Western Mexico, Theodore S. Delay Jan 1901

Prospecting In Western Mexico, Theodore S. Delay

Professional Degree Theses

"This article is dedicated and addressed to any man who contemplates a prospecting expedition in Mexico. I have made no attempt at a display of literary elegance, or scientific erudition. My aim has been to point out and explain such of the conditions of the business as are peculiar to Mexico. If any one, after having perused these pages, should find himself thereby the better able to cope with the difficulties of such an expedition, a rather unprofitable experience of the writer will have been not wholly fruitless"--page 31.

Extraction Of Silver By The Wet Way, Justo Garcia Martinez Jan 1886

Extraction Of Silver By The Wet Way, Justo Garcia Martinez

Bachelors Theses

"The great variety of ores in which silver occurs, usually makes it necessary to employ complicated processes for its extraction.

The extraction of the precious metal admits of two general processes viz. The Dry, and Wet Way and as I have chosen the latter for the subject of my thesis, we will be dispensed with the Dry Way, and will try and give all the processes and forms in which silver is extracted by the Wet Way"--page 1.
