A Study Of The Relationship Between Academic Promise Test Scores And Subsequent Achievement Test Scores And Course Grades At The Eighth Grade Level, Dallas B. Vaughan
All Master's Theses
The Academic Promise Test has been used to predict achievement over a three-month period. A study is needed to determine if the APT can predict achievement over a longer period of time (an academic year). This study is intended to determine how well the APT can predict pupils' achievement over a one year period on an achievement test battery and in terms of their average grades.

An Educational Attitudinal Synthetic Plane Placement Instrument, Felix Garcia Jr.
An Educational Attitudinal Synthetic Plane Placement Instrument, Felix Garcia Jr.
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of the study was to generate a heuristic Educational Attitudinal Synthetic Plane Placement (EASPP) Instrument composed of six major components: (1) the X Coordinate, (2) the Y Coordinate, (3) the eight apexes, (4) the eight octants, (5) the two diagonals, and (6) the clusterings. A quasi-experimental ex post facto design was employed. Thus, the EASPP was created by using a proven, abstract and conceptual attitudinal rating scale--the Kerlinger and Kaya Education Scale and an unproven, experiential and conceptual instrument--a questionnaire developed by this investigator. The intent was to marry a general conceptual and abstract attitudinal response to an …

An Investigation Of Holland's Theory Of Vocational Psychology, Dale Mitchell Johnson
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of the study was to investigate questions which were generated within three basic areas of Holland's theory of vocational psychology with respect to a sample of technical-vocational students. The three phases of the study were related to occupational classification, personality consistency, and personality patterns as they relate to technical-vocational training success. A sample of 393 students majoring in eleven different technical and vocational fields were administered the Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI). All students in the sample were enrolled in, and had completed a substantial portion of their training in technical, vocational, and beauty schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico. …

The Effect Of Work-Study Programs On Certain Student Behaviors, Stanley Schneider
The Effect Of Work-Study Programs On Certain Student Behaviors, Stanley Schneider
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
With the number of drop-outs on the increase, the federal, state and local agencies, as well as private industry, have become involved with methods of student retention. The Vocational Amendments of 1968 have given impetus to work-study programs of various types for the possible retention of these students.
The null hypothesis of this study was that the work-study programs examined do not change the characteristics of the potential drop-out which were used to identify him as a potential drop-out.
The study took place at North Babylon, New York. There a general work-study program known as the School to Employment Program …

A Survey Of Opinions Of Selected Principals Concerning Preparation And Characteristics Of Teachers For Junior High And Middle Schools., Lela Joan G. Brown
A Survey Of Opinions Of Selected Principals Concerning Preparation And Characteristics Of Teachers For Junior High And Middle Schools., Lela Joan G. Brown
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The great majority of those who teach in junior high and middle schools have not experienced a professional preparation intended specifically for teachers of these grades. It would seem reasonable that the teachers for the junior high and middle schools should be prepared in programs specifically designed for teachers of these grades, programs that are distinct and different from either the traditional elementary or secondary type of teacher preparation. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the perceptions of principals of junior high and middle schools concerning what they felt to be important in the preparation of teachers of …
