The Spanish Syntax Of The Pre-School Spanish American: The Case Of New Mexican Five-Year Old Children, MaríA Estela Brisk

Recent studies of the acquisition of syntax have revealed that it is not fully developed by the time a child enters first grade. In preparing and implementing bilingual programs for Spanish speaking children, then, it is of interest to know at what level of development the Spanish syntax of these children is. This study tries to determine the level of development of a rural and an urban group of five year old Spanish-American children from New Mexico. A surface syntactic analysis as well as a review of interference, dialectal, and developmental features of the speech of these children constitutes the …

Some Ethical Problems In Research On Human Subjects., F. Jaime Arellano-Galdames

Manipulation of human subjects in social scientific research entails some ethical conflicts that scientists must consider along with the technical problems in designing their studies, Such conflicts in a way become aggravated when the investigations --usually experiments-- are conducted in educational settings, In this connection, the present study concerns itself with four main topics: (1) relationships between research and ethics: (2) problems with manipulation of human subjects, (3) need for and problems with the principle of informed con­sent, and (4) issues surrounding the use of experimental deception.

The Portland State University Educational Center: A Study Of A New Approach To Off-Campus Education, Harvey L. Rice

Dissertations and Theses

The P.S.U. Educational Center is an attempt to facilitate the access of Portland's inner city residents to higher education. It is an attempt to overcome the bitterness, defeatism and mistrust that many of these people feel toward education. In its four year history the Center has grown rapidly. The number of people served by the Center per term has risen from 15 in 1969 to 1,300 in 1972. Course offerings have increased from 5 to nearly 30. The Center offers both college credit and other types of courses at nominal fees. An evaluation of the Center--based in part on a …
