Retention In Salem Elementary Schools, Charles M. Raglin

Social or chronological promotion has long been a practice of the public schools of the United States. The alternative, nonpromotion or retention, has in the opinion of most psychologists and sociologists led to emotional and sociological trauma for the child. Another and probably the most cogent objection, is many parents oppose nonpromotion and are unwilling to accept the social stigma of "flunking." Children's achievement is a status symbol which profoundly affects families in many communities.
The writer contends that unless parents are directly involved in the decision early in the nonpromotion year, retention will not culminate in satisfactory achievement. Cooperation …

During the spring semester of 1979, Dr. Donald W. Smitley of Eastern Illinois University; Mr. Joseph Foster, Superintendent of Shelbyville School System Unit #4; and Harold O. Redicks, Principal of Moulton Junior High, agreed that the author would participate in an assortment of activities in order to gain meaningful experiences to prepare the author for a position as a school administrator. The author entered this program for the purpose of acquiring knowledge of being a school administrator and to work under the guidance of a successful superintendent and principal.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
This paper deals with the problem of developing and writing a grant proposal following the Title IV, Elementary and Secondary Education Act guidelines.
PROCEDURE
The writer explains the procedure she followed to develop her idea into the final project proposal that was submitted to the Title IV, ESEA office. Included in this narrative are: an explanation of how the proper funding was located, the development of the project, a copy of the evaluation process used by the Title IV office to determine which projects are funded, and copies of the·final evaluations of the project proposal.

This thesis research provided background for the Iowa Association of Elementary Principals on the current status of early childhood education in the fifty states. It also determined the support for mandatory kindergarten and optional pre-kindergarten programs among elementary principals and kindergarten teachers in Iowa. This data was sought to provide information for the Iowa Association of Elementary School Principals for possible legislation requiring mandatory kindergarten and optional prekindergarten programs in Iowa.
One aspect of the study involved compilation of data reported by the department of public instruction in the fifty states. A second aspect concerned a survey of elementary principals …

Problem. There is a lack of definitive educational facility space guidelines that Seventh-day Adventist church groups may follow in their planning for new school plants. Since re quests constantly arrive at the denomination's headquarters for assistance in the planning of school facilities, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists through its Department of Education has requested that a set of guide lines relative to minimum space requirements be developed to cover grades K-12 in the United States. This study was undertaken to determine the status of the work-study programs in the eight state universities of Kentucky. A review of the literature indicated that little research had been conducted in the area of work-study administration, and thus this study was performed to increase the knowledge in this area. A questionnaire was developed to survey the work study program at the eight universities concerning the following three areas: organization and administration, evaluation procedures, and professional preparation. A high degree of centralization was indicated at all of the universities in regard to their student work programs, and administrative policy was …
