Transition Of Expert Clinical Nurse To Novice Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, Lisa Marie Langdale
Transition Of Expert Clinical Nurse To Novice Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, Lisa Marie Langdale
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Nursing professional development (NPD) is an evolving nursing specialty role that combines expertise in clinical nursing with ongoing education in acute care settings. A novice NPD practitioner may not understand the complexities, demands, and stressors that accompany a work role transition. This qualitative case study used thematic analysis and revealed four themes associated with the successful work role transition of an expert clinical nurse to the novice NPD practitioner. The conceptual framework guiding this study was Nicholson’s work role transitions theory. The first research question sought to determine the professional experiences of expert clinical nurses as they transition into the …

The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ perceptions of administrator support, teacher retention, and teacher attrition. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological system theory served as the conceptual framework that guided this study. A basic qualitative research design was used to capture the insights of 10 middle school teachers in an urban district in the eastern United States through …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A K–12 public school district in the northeastern United States implemented its own clinical in-school counseling program (CISCP) to help at-risk students in Grades 7–12 who were experiencing a crisis. The problem was that the district was unaware of whether the CISCP is helping its students through their crises. The study was important as it provided insightful data into the CISCP’s perceived effectiveness to meet the students’ needs. The purpose was to examine the perceived program effectiveness of the CISCP in helping its at-risk students in Grades 7–12 through their crises. Through a program evaluation using the developmental evaluation model, …

Grade Point Average (Gpa) As A Criterion For Admission To Two-Year Nursing Programs: The Impact Of Gpa Use On Student Learning, How Gpa Informs Program Admission Decisions, And What Ethical Frameworks Support Admission Decisions, Luke Green
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The use of grade point average (GPA) to guide and inform decision-making permeates many corners of the educational landscape, including admission decisions into collegiate academic programs. Using GPA in this way turns an individual academic measure into a commodity that can be used to settle a competition amongst applicants. The rationale for using GPA in this way often goes undiscussed by policymakers who select it as a criterion. Additionally, turning GPA into a commodity that unlocks academic opportunity runs the risk of affecting how students approach learning in order to get an advantage over those whom they are competing against. …

Education And The Gender Spectrum: Addressing Gender Identity Needs In The High School Environment, Donna Eason
Doctor of Education Dissertations
This phenomenological study explored the experiences of teachers and administrators in addressing the needs of transgender and nonbinary students. Because most current research focuses mostly on the experiences of students, this study specifically investigated the beliefs, behaviors, challenges, and successes of educators. By analyzing the data provided by the participants, teachers and administrators could be made aware of how best to create and maintain inclusive school environments. The qualitative methodology included interviews with teachers and administrators from a charter school and a private school and focused on their thoughts, feelings, and actions regarding interactions with students who identify as transgender …

Advising And Supporting College Students Experiencing Imposter Syndrome: A Christian Perspective, Jeannine Kranzow
Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development
For Christian student affairs educators, it is essential that the methods of advising and supporting students be in line with biblical directives for a whole and holy life. This paper will examine approaches for advising and supporting students experiencing imposter syndrome. Current research on impostor syndrome is presented as well as a discussion of ways that Christian insight can provide additional guidance and awareness for supporting struggling students. By connecting both biblical wisdom and the current scholarship, a Christian perspective of impostor syndrome, anchored in a discussion on spiritual warfare, is offered. Using this perspective, recommendations for practice are identified.

Influence Of Medical Education Scholarships On Reducing Physician Shortages, Brendon L. La Grenade
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
For more than 44 years, the study site university and the Government of Grenada, a low- and middle-income country island, have collaborated to provide medical education scholarships for qualified citizens. These scholarships aim to provide an education pathway to medical school and a solution to the island’s physician shortage by having the scholarship recipients return to serve their country as physicians. However, the problem of a physician shortage persists because most recipients migrate to higher income countries, primarily the United States. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the perspectives of scholarship recipients and providers regarding how …

The Lived Experiences Of Faculty In The Covid-19 Pandemic Shift In Instruction, Alison Hammack
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
This study sought to understand the lived experiences of mathematics faculty teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic's rapid shift from on-campus instruction to online education. Faculty are the primary influencers at a college. Their perspectives on the challenges and changes to teaching practices may determine a college's response to improving teaching and learning during a crisis. At the time of the COVID-19 transition, many faculty had no experience creating and teaching an online course, and some had previously been resistant to teaching online. Using a phenomenological approach, nine participants at a large state college were interviewed using the Teacher-Centered Systemic Reform …

The Impact Of Bias And Historical Racial Trauma On Black Girls’ Education: Using Theory To Better Understand Benefits, Angela Fisher-Williams
DSW Capstone Projects
ABSTRACT OF CAPSTONE
Implicit biases are among the most unfair discriminating microaggressive habits; Black students face within the compulsory educational system. However, college institutions are not sufficiently preparing social work students to work with this marginalized group to help manage these needs through diversity training courses. The researcher wrote a synthesis paper that synthesized two theories, the Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (PTSS). This research will determine if social work students who take part in diversity training embedded in their coursework could better prepare social workers for the field. This research employed a descriptive design while …

Nurse Management Education To Improve Job Satisfaction And Nurse Retention, Motunrayo Omoloye Adegorusi
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Abstract Nurses play a critical role as primary care providers in correctional facilities, as well as custodians of security. However, there is a significant disparity in the supply of nurses in correctional settings relative to other practice settings, which is a major gap in practice. The current problem arises from the inability to retain nurses in the correctional settings. Prisons have a harsh work environment characterized by a difficult patient population and stringent policies that govern operations. Additionally, a high level of bureaucracy impedes system reforms and transformations. The purpose of the DNP project was to find out if the …

Housewives To Heroines: Continuing Education For Women At The University Of Kentucky, 1964-1988, Allison L. Elliott
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation
Beginning in the early 1960s, the movement for the continuing education for women (CEW) brought together a seemingly unlikely alliance of American activists, educators, philanthropists, and government agencies. Fueled by philanthropic funds, accelerated by the quest for “womanpower” to bolster national defense, and aligned with regional workforce needs as well as the personal goals of individual women, CEW programs pioneered new models of academic advising and student support that continue to influence higher education practitioners today. By studying the experiences of both administrators and students involved with CEW at the University of Kentucky, this study sheds light on how one …
