Programs And Practitioners: We Do What We Are, Stephen R. Phillips Jul 1979

Programs And Practitioners: We Do What We Are, Stephen R. Phillips

POD Quarterly: The Journal of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education

Teaching has sometimes been described as "a function of personality." Although clearly an oversimplification of a complex and difficult activity, the concept nevertheless has considerable merit; what we as teachers can do or are willing to try in the classroom and in our relationships with our colleagues, our students, and our institutions is in many ways determined by what we are as people. In a similar way, what we as individuals involved in faculty development can or are willing to do with or for faculty, administrators and students is as much a function of our personalities as of the skills …

The Future Of Faculty Development, David O. Justice Apr 1979

The Future Of Faculty Development, David O. Justice

POD Quarterly: The Journal of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education

Reading the future is a risky business for the most thoughtful and prescient minds. I was therefore surprised to be asked to address the future of faculty development in view of the fact that I already have a record of predictions. I predicted, for example, 'Richard Nixon will never resign'; 'The Cardinals will stick with an Italian-Pope' and 'there will be a cabinet level Department of Education in 1978'.

With this record behind me, I will nonetheless tum my talents to faculty development and present my thoughts about its future. I should point out that I use the term faculty …

Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts Jan 1978

Cohesion And Purpose : A Consideration Of The Structure Of Pre-Service Teacher Education, Douglas C. Courts

Research outputs pre 2011

Any consideration of the structure of pre-service teacher education must take account of the long-standing and still-continuing debate on the relative merits of consecutive and concurrent patterns of training. The co-existence of both approaches - the universities with degree courses followed by one-year professional training and the majority of colleges of advanced education with concurrent course structures - shows that not only are both systems viable but that neither can claim significant superiority. It is often argued that the concurrent pattern is more suited to the training of primary school teachers while the consecutive pattern, particularly in the university context, …

Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan Jan 1974

Nongraded Education: A Modified Plan For Implementation In The Elementary School, Betty S. Cowan

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Nongraded education differs theoretically from graded education in administrative and curricular design. The nongraded program responds to individual abilities and achievement, and groups accordingly. The graded school is organized on the basis of age and group expectation, and prescribes curriculum which equates with grade level requirements rather than ability. This project presents selected details of both graded and nongraded education and a modified plan for implementation of a nongraded program.
