A Study Of Selected Aspects Of The Social Studies Curriculum In American Secondary Schools, James Ching-Bin Chang

Graduate Research Papers

However, there was little agreement on which concepts or ways of working in the social sciences were most fruitful and representative of accepted structure.

Twenty-Five Years: A History Of Claremont Teachers College 1952 - 1977, John A. Mckenzie

Research outputs pre 2011

This book had its beginning in our belief that it was appropriate in celebrating the seventy-fifth anniversary of Claremont Teachers College to record the significant contribution its staff and students have made to the development of Western Australia.

The idea of writing a sequel to Dr Mossenson's history of the first fifty years was endorsed by the College Council and I was given the task of finding a historian who would take on this work.

I found that person in John McKenzie, who had trained and lectured at the college. Mr McKenzie willingly agreed to bring together the strands of …

A Study Of Gross' Theory On Implementing Organizational Innovations: The Case Of Bilingual Education, Roger Tom

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to test, modify and refine the theory developed by Gross and his associates on implementing organizational innovations by applying it to the attempt to implement a bilingual education project.

Procedures. Criteria were established for the selection of the school site. Once the site was selected, the data were collected through classroom observations, staff interviews, questionnaires, and available school documents. The data were analyzed with regard to their fit or lack of fit with elements of Gross' theory. Factors not accounted for in the theory were identified.

Findings. The findings of the study substantially …

Selected Personality Constructs As Correlates Of Personnel Appointment, Appraisal, And Mobility In Seventh-Day Adventist Schools, Merle A. Greenway

Dissertations

Problem. Despite tentative postulations and explorations of the person/job interaction, the specific relationships between personality and occupational behavior are not clearly understood. In particular, the relationships between human temperament and various aspects of personnel administration in an educational setting are generally unknown. The purpose of this study was to profile the temperament traits of professional educators in the Seventh-day Adventist school system, grouped on the basis of occupationally relevant selection variables; and to investigate the role of personality as it relates to personnel appointment, appraisal, and mobility.

Method. A demographic questionnaire and the Temperament Inventory were administered to 486 teachers, …

Cross-Age Tutoring--Using The 4 T'S, Lawrence L. Smith

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Cross- age tutoring or peer tutoring can be an effective instructional strategy for remedial reading teachers who are overloaded with students. While the concept is not new, the purpose of this paper is to describe an organizational change in remedial reading classes using a cross-age or peer tutoring paradigm developed by the author.

Application For A Change Agent Strategy In Dissemination Of An Australian Innovation, Barry J. Fraser, David L. Smith Jan 1980

Application For A Change Agent Strategy In Dissemination Of An Australian Innovation, Barry J. Fraser, David L. Smith

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

Several excellent reviews of the general education change and innovation literature exist and this literature indicates that a widely adopted strategy for planned development and dissemination of curriculum innovations has been the Research, Development and Diffusion (RD&D) model. This empirical-rational strategy involves the initial development of teacher-proof curriculum packages followed by mass dissemination which assumes that teachers' adaptation and translation problems have been largely anticipated and accommodated. The RD&D strategy, however, has recently provoked increasing skepticism because teachers and schools often have failed to adopt new curriculum materials, to implement them in ways envisaged by the developers, or to continue …

An Individualized Program For The Learning Resource Center, Marian Woyna Aug 1979

An Individualized Program For The Learning Resource Center, Marian Woyna

Theses

This project outlines the development and implementation of an individualized program for the Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Roach School. Initiated in response to organizational shifts—including the adoption of the Individually Guided Education (I.G.E.) model, restructuring due to desegregation, and expanded special education services—the program addresses the growing need for differentiated learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Marian Woyna’s work emphasizes a shift from a passive LRC role to an active, instructional one, supporting students across a range of academic abilities and personal interests. Drawing on the theories of confluent education and the Prester Theory of brain function, the …
