Holistic Fitness Programs For Older Adults As A Means Towards Optimal Aging, Ellen Jean Sherman
Theses
Three objectives were focused upon regarding the potential of holistically designed fitness programs to facilitate optimal aging. The first objective involved a review of the pertinent literature, revealing a small body of research concerning fitness programs which incorporate physical, psychological, and social components. However, very little documentation of measured effects of these programs was discovered within the literature.
The second objective was description of a current study which involved older persons who participated in two varieties of fitness programs, conventional and holistic. A small group of older persons who did not participate in any fitness program was used as a …

Using Children's Literature To Stimulate Children's Writing, Lois Jane Auliff
Using Children's Literature To Stimulate Children's Writing, Lois Jane Auliff
Graduate Research Papers
Writing helps children use language in new ways. The process of writing brings order to unorganized thinking. It brings o a conscious level vague realizations. Because writing can make ideas more concrete, it helps learning take place. As Cook relates, "It is only by putting pencil to paper, by sorting out what we have written, that we come to grips with what we know and believe."

Development Of Instructional Materials To Accompany A Course Of Educational Methods For Dietitians, Laura Frances Crouch
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Nutrition education has become an integral part of the dietitian's responsibilities. By definition, this involves the method by which beliefs, attitudes, environmental influences, and understandings about food lead to practices that are scientifically sound, practical, and consistent with individual needs. Nutrition education should be available to individuals and families regardless of income, location, or cultural, social, or economic practices or level of education.
The Development Of An Assessment Form To Screen Preschool Children For Nutritional Referral, Donna Bond Phillips
The Development Of An Assessment Form To Screen Preschool Children For Nutritional Referral, Donna Bond Phillips
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The Ten State Nutrition Survey (1968-1972) included West Virginia as a participant and provided data on the nutritional status of various age groups including preschool children. Information from biochemical tests, anthropometric measurements and a 24-hour dietary recall indicated that a significant number of children in West Virginia and the United States are malnourished or at nutritional risk. For this reason it is essential that nutritional evaluation of children be carried out during physical examinations. However, it may not be necessary for the evaluation to be completed by a nutritionist.

A Practice-Teaching Program Model For Teacher Training Centers In Iran, Jalil Baharestan-Hanzaei
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Problem. It is the researcher's opinion that most of the educational administrators in Iran have not fully realized the significance of practice teaching programs in developing and providing competent teachers. A Post-Hoc Analysis Of Factors Contributing To The Preponderance Of Males In Learning Disabilities, Roger Joseph Piwowarski
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The present study assessed the efficacy of specific classes of variables (Intrapersonal, Interpersonal, Extrapersonal) for the explanation of the preponderance of males in learning disabilities placements (LO). Factors were selected which represented a cross-section of variable classes and included behavioral, genetic, and physiological factors. A large number of variables were included to facilitate a relationship between the present study and the many mutually exclusive theories of LO. A significant purpose of the present study was to examine the applicability of specific theories of LO to an actual population. An examination was made of the case histories of a complete population …

The overall aim of Piaget's work was to delineate the sequence of the development of intelligence, particularly the ability of a subject to interact successfully with complex problems or to deal with simple problems in more efficient ways. To this end, this study investigated the validation of a new interview task as an instrument for assessing the formal reasoning abilities of college students. The new task, patterned after a game called MasterMind, requires the subject to deduce the color and location of …
