Healthy Child Development Through Early Childhood Parent Education, Victoria Sue Kleidon Oestmann

This study proposes to examine parent education literature concerning the provision of parent education and support to parents during the first three years of parenthood in order to make recommendations to parent educators, counselors, and others interested in enhancing healthy child development. In Chapter 1, the significance of the study to professionals will be discussed. The limitations of this study will be stated, the assumptions for the provision of early childhood parent education will be detailed, and definitions of terms will be provided.

In preparation for designing a number of inservice activities for science teachers, the author completed a needs assessment on a random, stratified sample of the grade six through twelve science teachers in Illinois. The survey was carried out using the Moore Assessment Profile (MAP), an instrument which had been developed specifically to identify the needs of inservice science teachers.

A project was designed for secondary health students possessing learning disabilities in the areas of perceptual motor, motor active, and reading. After identifying the characteristics and remedial approaches for these learning disabilities, lesson plans and specific learning activities were developed for a unit on nutrition. A resource and materials section was included to assist regular secondary health classroom teachers with learning disabled students.

A Mobile Summer Camp For The Mildly/Moderately Mentally Retarded, Jerrianne C. Sorensen

A mobile camp for the mildly/moderately mentally retarded was designed to provide first-hand experience in the essentials of obtaining food, shelter, and social skills of cohabitation along with their interdependency with flora, fauna, and the topographical environment. The camp design consists of 10 days of camping in tents and staying in motels. The campers travel by bus along the Washington coast, Puget Sound, and San Juan Islands. Areas of academic instruction include plants and animals along the route.

The Effects Of Low-Sugar Diets On Behavior And Paired-Associate Learning In Normal Children, Elizabeth Louise Eller

An experiment was conducted to determine whether reduced sugar diets improve learning and/or alter behavior in normal children . The 14 Ss--seven males and seven females- -were elementary school students, ranging in age from 8.01 to 10.06, matched for age, sex, race, and SES, and screened for med i cation and learning disabilities . They were sequentially assigned to low- sugar and usual diet groups for two - and four- week periods . In a pretest-pottest design, assessment instruments were a paired- associate (PA) learning task and a Nutrition Behavior Inventory {NBI) . The pretest mean NB! indicated at least …

In 1956 the first kindergarten was established in the city of Watertown, Wisconsin by Margarethe Meyer Schurz, a disciple of Friedrich Froebel. (Cutright, 1981) The kindergarten and kindergarten curriculum were designed by Froebel in Germany in the 1830's and 1840's. The original kindergarten concept was established for preschoolers three to seven years old. Smith (1971) states that the kindergarten was a system of intellectual, moral and physical education, which reflected pedagogical principles considered foolish and extreme in the middle of the 19th century, namely the significance of play and the need to base the curriculum on the child's interest and …
