The Impact Of The Covid-19 Pandemic For High School Counselors: A Phenomenological Investigation, Melissa Ann Jensen
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to discover the comprehensive effect that the COVID-19 pandemic had and may still be having on high school counselors in the Houston metropolitan area. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory guides this study as it notes an individual’s ability to advance toward self-actualization in one’s personal and professional life. The COVID-19 pandemic altered one’s ability to accomplish those steps. Interviews with high school counselors assisted in gathering personal experiences as to how much the COVID-19 pandemic impacted their ability to become their best selves, both personally and professionally. Two focus groups were conducted to …

Exploring Educator Experiences Of Instructing Students With Disabilities During A Crisis: A Phenomenological Study, Laqueta Marie Wilson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe teacher experiences in educating students with disabilities during a pandemic for K-5 teachers at John James K-8 school in the southeastern United States. The theory guiding this study was Bandura’s (1986) social cognitive learning theory, as it related to the importance of social learning on learners' cognition. Also, Universal Design for Learning was highlighted to suggest that all students should be taught in an inclusive setting. The central research question driving this study was, what are the lived post-pandemic experiences of general K-5 educators who instruct students with disabilities who return …

Fostering Critical Thinking Through Simulation: An Integrative Review, Sarah Knapp, Raymonta Green
Master of Science in Nursing Final Projects
Over the past decade simulation has become a staple of nursing education with increasing use during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both manikin-based and virtual simulation are used to increase the preparedness of nursing students for their roles at the bedside. With the increasing experience-complexity gap, it is important that students enter the workforce prepared to effectively care for patients. Simulation allows students to work with a patient scenario without the possibility of injury; in simulation, mistakes are opportunities instead of harm. This integrative review searched the literature questioning if in pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, do virtual simulation and …

Textbook Tasks For Social Change: Instantiation Of Development Debates And Interposition Of Pedagogical Interventions In Media Literacy Education, John N. Ponsaran
Journal of Sustainable Social Impact
As materialization of their discursive stance as instructional communicators and media producers, textbook authors instantiate various development debates as well as interpose a wide range of pedagogical interventions for critical reflection and adoption by learners. This qualitative study sought to situate these development debates and the counterpart pedagogical interventions within the context of textbook task design as an application and embodiment of social justice communication. The development debates serve as the proposed contexts for media text analyses, reflective exercises, case studies, and media production, among others. Correspondingly, the interposition of interventions allows students to make sense of and act upon …
