Carbon Dioxide: Experiments For General Science, O. B. Read
Science Bulletin
It is quite generally thought that an elaborate equipment of test tubes, flasks, beakers, dishes and desks are needed for any experiment involving chemistry. There are, however, many simple and instructive experiments that may be tried with only common household apparatus.
About Static Electricity, L. Begeman
About Static Electricity, L. Begeman
Science Bulletin
Static charges of electricity occur in two forms, viz.: positive charges and negative charges. We now know that a negative charge consists of an aggregate of small particles called electrons and that a positive charge consists of an aggregate of small particles called protons. These electrons and protons may with equal correctness be considered particles of matter or particles of energy.

Environment As A Factor In The Growth And Distribution Of Plants, O. R. Clark
Science Bulletin
The form and appearance of plants and the activities which they carry on are due in large part to the inherited characteristics of their ancestors. The influence which heredity exerts should be clearly and forcefully presented to students. At the same time the expression of the hereditary traits may be greatly modified by the conditions under which! the plants grow.

Natural Science: Seed Corn, Winfield Scott
Science Bulletin
Again we come to the annual problem of seed corn and show corn. In the first place good seed corn is important to all of us because missing hills and barren stalks mean wasted labor, wasted time, and wasted land. Since human labor and time are our most valuable assets why waste them through useless endeavor by planting corn which will not grow nor yield?

Iowa high schools may justly be proud of their chemistry courses and of their chemistry teachers. The state ranks low in the number of schools offering this science but high in the quality of its teaching staff. One sure criterion of instructional efficiency is growth - a growth based upon the frank recognition of mistakes and intelligent effort to correct them.

The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
Education Student Dissertations
While reading the "Principles of Educational Sociology" by Walter Robinson Smith, the writer was deeply impressed by the statement that "Next to the family group and home life, the play group and play life exert the most vital influence upon the unfolding personality of the child." The writer wondered if it was the absence of play life, as American born children of fair social background experience it, that would in some measure explain the dullness of the Italian-American child of Sicilian and Neapolitan origin, who, as the writer knew him, was so lovable, so anxious and eager to please and …

Adapting Instruction To The Needs Of A First Grade, Genevieve Y. Younge
Bachelors’ Theses
Fortunately for the young child as well as for society we have evidences of the growing appreciation of the educational possibilities of early childhood. This is manifested in the opportunities provided by universities for the training of teachers of childhood. Teachers College, John Hopkins, Yale, Harvard and the universities of Iowa and Columbia offer research courses in this particular study.
In 1905 a conscious attempt was made to work out a technique of teaching built upon a new conception of the teacher as a guide rather than as a dictator, but few were interested, so the attempt was not revived …
