What Is The Gifted Child?, Jessie R. Pendergast Jan 1933

What Is The Gifted Child?, Jessie R. Pendergast

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this study is to identify the gifted. As it is to them that the world must look for progress, their identification should become the most important of all social arrangements so that they may not become corrupted by luxury or starved by poverty. This selection is most important. As general intelligence is not to be determined from external symptoms but from the quality of thinking, the most satisfactory methods of identifying the gifted are by means of those characteristics which distinguish them as a group. These characteristics may be determined through reactions in general intelligence tests and …

A History Of Borden Institute, James C. Standiford Jan 1933

A History Of Borden Institute, James C. Standiford

Graduate Thesis Collection

This study has for its purpose the preserving for posterity of a brief account of one of the small private schools of Southern Indiana.  Too frequently, perhaps, an institution like a flower, as expressed by Thomas Gray in his "Elegy," "is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air".  This may have been true of Borden Institute which was founded out of an unselfish desire and in the spirit of service to mankind.

Autobiography Of Proteins In Nutrients, Marguerite Jones

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in 1933, surveys the chemical classification of proteins and their role in human nutrition, with the stated aim of preparing home economics students to understand protein's function in the diet. The thesis then examines amino acids as the end products of protein digestion, identifying those essential for growth and maintenance, including tryptophane, …

Working in the physical education department of small high schools for the past four years, the writer is aware that there is a need for a program of athletics for all. The program presented in this thesis is the result of investigation and practical experimentation with intramural athletics for boys in the Live …

Modern Concepts Of The Teaching Of Geography, Cora S. Peterson Nov 1932

Modern Concepts Of The Teaching Of Geography, Cora S. Peterson

Bachelors’ Theses

Geography as a subject has had a very slow growth in comparison with other subjects of the school curriculum in our schools as well as in European institutions of learning - its growth has, indeed, been slow - from a descriptive stage, through the present pseudoscientific stage, to the ideal stage of the future: that of a philosophical science. This coming science occupies a most important position in a well balanced scheme of education. It should, therefore, be taught in such a manner, particularly in the elementary schools, that it will be productive of that wide, deep, and practical culture …
