Learning From Animals: Models For Studying Physiology And Disease, W. Jean Dodds Jan 1980

Learning From Animals: Models For Studying Physiology And Disease, W. Jean Dodds

Education Collection

Animals can serve as valuable educational tools for elementary and high school students. By teaching young people reverence for all forms of life at an early age, it is possible to instill in them a proper perspective concerning the welfare and humane stewardship of animals. Exemplary subjects include the various aspects of evolutionary and embryological development; normal physiological processes, the mechanisms and pathology of naturally occurring infectious, metabolic, genetic and neoplastic diseases and aging; and an appreciation of the inevitability of death. Such studies can serve as learning models for students because these processes parallel or closely resemble those of …

Curriculum Development For Cooperative Education, Ann Ferris

Masters Theses

The Cooperative Education program at Lake Land College strives to provide training for students in any vocational/technical career. This is accomplished by individualizing curriculum plans using courses available on campus and securing a training station for them in local business or industrial establishments. These ten areas were identified by using current students' career choices as well as by examining the records of past Cooperative Education students.

Commercial vocational material catalogs, educational curriculum guides, and the …

Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner Jan 1980

Evidence From Science And Tradition Supporting A Two-Model (Evolution/Creation) Approach To Teaching The Origin Of Life, Robert P. Gardner

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

This study gathered material presenting flood traditions in agreement with data concerning models of origins, selected material for supplementing classroom materials, and determined public opinion as how the subject of origins should be taught in public schools. Surveys recommend a two-model (evolution/creation) approach be taught within scientific limitations in public schools. Materials are available to promote this approach legally, fairly, and scientifically. Because of the evolution model's inadequacies, a reinterpretation of equivalent data allowing for catastrophic universal flood concepts is needed. Part of this reinterpretation may be supplied by the canopy model, as well as the many worldwide flood traditions. …

Pressure Basketball And The Speed Game: A Comprehensive Coaching Philosophy, Lanny Vaneman May 1979

Pressure Basketball And The Speed Game: A Comprehensive Coaching Philosophy, Lanny Vaneman

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

There has been in the past, and likely will continue to be, an obvious lack of printed material dealing with the discipline of basketball. The wide spectrum of everything that is to be taught, as well as how it is to be introduced (in the writer’s opinion) has been neglected. Rather than focusing on one phase or a limited number of areas of interest, this work attempts to serve as a comprehensive basketball coaching manual for a beginning mentor. It should also serve well for one who wishes to reevaluate or revise his coaching philosophy. Careful thought has been given …

Story Structure And Age Effects On Children's Ability To Sequence Stories, E. Mcclure, J. Mason, J. Barnitz May 1979

Story Structure And Age Effects On Children's Ability To Sequence Stories, E. Mcclure, J. Mason, J. Barnitz

Curriculum and Instruction Faculty Publications

To investigate the strategies children use in comprehending written stories, third, sixth, and ninth grade students were given scrambled six-sentence stories and asked to reorder them. Three versions of each of six stories were created. The first version was the canonical form of the story predicted by story grammar rules; the second version began with a sentence which questioned the conclusion of the canonical form; and in the third this conclusion began the story. Significant effects of grade and structure indicated that the canonical form was more easily ordered than were the other structures, and also that third grade students …

The Relationship Between Reading Levels And Self-Concept Of Disabled Readers, Marilyn Ann Cox Jan 1979

The Relationship Between Reading Levels And Self-Concept Of Disabled Readers, Marilyn Ann Cox

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

It has been noted that emotional factors are an integral part of a child's success in learning to read. Research indicates that one of the most important personality factors is self-concept. Because the disabled reader has met with repeated failures his self-concept appears to be significantly affected. However, the fact that each person's self-concept is private, personal, and not directly observable makes it difficult to measure. A complication in self-concept measurement is that there have been almost as many measuring devices as there have been studies. Two types of self-concept measures are discussed in the review of literature. The purpose …
