As digital transformation accelerates, leveraging digital technologies to enhance ESG performance has become a critical issue for both academia and practice. Using a sample of non-technology listed firms in Malaysia from 2018 to 2023, this research employs a fixed-effects model. The study also investigates the moderating …

The Effects Of Customer Orientation Of Frontline Employees, Their Customers, And Unit Profitability, Tom Brown, Nawar N. Chaker, Todd D. Donavan, Gabriel Gazzoli, Jerry W. Grizzle, James M. Lee, John C. Mowen, Alex R. Zablah

Day of Scholarship

Customer orientation is an employee’s natural tendency to focus on understanding and meeting customer needs. When frontline employees have this mindset, they tend to perform better in their jobs and receive stronger performance ratings--and their customers have higher levels of satisfaction. For employees who engage more frequently with customers, it also benefits them personally, leading to greater job satisfaction and stronger commitment to their organization. In work units that support a strong customer-focused climate, customer-oriented behaviors translate into higher sales and profitability without raising costs. Customer-oriented employees are also more likely to speak up with ideas that improve the customer …

Trust At A Distance: 6 Strategies For Managing In Remote Workspaces, Peggy Kendall, David Horsager

Day of Scholarship

In 2025, over 50% of US workers worked in hybrid jobs while another 27% work fully remote. As the way we work changes, it is important to understand how these technologies change the way we communicate and how we build trust. This project, based on research done through an Edgren Scholarship, has culminated in a book co-authored with David Horsager and published by Berrett-Koehler. The book has opened conversations related to challenges like proximity bias, remote accountability, employee burnout, meeting structures, and the changing nature of nonverbal communication.

When Venture Capitalists Clash: Exploring The Impact Of Ownership And Status Mismatch On New Venture Growth, Li Wang, Zhu Zhu, Sunny Li Sun

Department of Management Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This study investigates the impact of power source mismatch of venture capital syndication on the growth performance of new ventures, considering their corporate governance and institutional environment. Using data from listed companies in the small and medium enterprises market in China, we find that ownership-dominated power source mismatch in venture capital syndication enhances new venture growth performance, while status-dominated power source mismatch has the opposite effect. Additionally, the positive performance impact of ownership-dominated power source mismatch is amplified when the venture capital firm with the highest ownership power joins the board and when the new venture is headquartered in a …

Building A Pathway Of Genai-Enabled Capabilities For Supply Chain Management, Mario Henrique Callefi, Elza Magalhães, Léony Luis Lopes Negrão, Matthias Thürer, Janaina Siegler, Ivan Tomašević, Moacir Godinho Filho Feb 2026

Building A Pathway Of Genai-Enabled Capabilities For Supply Chain Management, Mario Henrique Callefi, Elza Magalhães, Léony Luis Lopes Negrão, Matthias Thürer, Janaina Siegler, Ivan Tomašević, Moacir Godinho Filho

Scholarship and Professional Work - Business

The integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) into Supply Chain Management (SCM) has accelerated rapidly. However, limited understanding exists on how GenAI-enabled capabilities should be prioritised to create sustained value. Existing research predominantly describes applications but overlooks the hierarchical structure of underlying capabilities required for effective adoption. In response, this study develops a capability-oriented framework grounded in the Task Technology Fit (TTF) perspective. A Systematic Literature Review identified capabilities, which were refined via Fuzzy Delphi and structured using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) with Fuzzy MICMAC. The resulting framework was corroborated through secondary case analyses of DHL Supply Chain and Walmart, …

Moral Boundaries: How Sacred Values And Cultural Tightness Influence Entrepreneurial Action, Paul Sanchez-Ruiz, Ileana Maldonado-Bautista, Peter G. Klein, Joseph Vaughn Feb 2026

Moral Boundaries: How Sacred Values And Cultural Tightness Influence Entrepreneurial Action, Paul Sanchez-Ruiz, Ileana Maldonado-Bautista, Peter G. Klein, Joseph Vaughn

Management Faculty Publications

This study examines how religiously grounded sacred values and cultural tightness shape entrepreneurial action. Scholarship on religious entrepreneurship often emphasizes how practices connected to believed superhuman powers motivate and support entrepreneurial processes and outcomes. We highlight a complementary perspective by theorizing that sacred values work as moral commitments rooted in religious practices that limit the action individuals view as acceptable under uncertainty. We further argue that the influence of sacred values depends on the cultural contexts in which entrepreneurial action is embedded. Using multilevel data from more than 14,000 individuals across 11 countries, we find that sacred values are negatively …

Mentoring For Workforce Education And Development: Insights From Education And Broader Applicability, Ramiro Pesina

Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development

Mentoring programs are pivotal to workforce education, bridging skill gaps and fostering employee retention across industries. Although this study focuses on mentoring practices within the education sector, its findings are broadly applicable to other professions where effective mentoring supports employee onboarding, retention, and professional growth. Through qualitative interviews with mentors and mentees in a North Texas school district, this study identifies key factors contributing to successful mentoring: structured sessions, effective leadership, and prioritization of mentor-mentee relationships. While the findings underscore the universal principles of mentoring, the application of these insights across various professions warrants further research. By situating these findings …

Strategies For Reducing Fraud In Corporate Organizations, Tarshall Horton Mccauley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Financial statement fraud has been a persistent problem that poses risks to corporations globally. Business leaders are concerned about financial statement fraud due to its potential to weaken financial stability, erode stakeholder confidence, and create conditions that may lead to significant financial distress or organizational collapse. The participants were 11 financial leaders in North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and Virginia who practiced effective internal controls to minimize financial fraud. Data …
