Manpower Needs Forecasts For The Health Services Of The United States Of Mexico, Arnold Reisman, Lilia I. Duran, Carlos Pucheu Regis

The Republic of Mexico is in the process of review and reorganization of its health care delivery systems. Planning for the reorganization requires a manpower needs forecast under various delivery scenarios in each of 27 prioritized health problem areas. This paper discusses the 1987 and 1992 manpower needs forecasts in one of the 27 health priorities, e.g., the mental health services field. A panel representing national leadership from all relevant provider professions (psychiatry, psychology, social work, etc.) working in the public and private provider and academic institutions was used to reach a consensus via the Delphi process on each of …

The rural agency on aging did not – could not – engage in effective social planning because it was charged with a full range of responsibilities for sub-state decisionmaking among competing grant applicants. Several aspects of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) planning mission are identified and discussed including “plan preparation”, rational decision-making, sub-state allocations and needs meeting. Widespread acceptance of the legitimacy of AAA planning goals generated three alternative models, which are termed the case management, inter-organizational and community structural approaches. Performance standards encompass information characteristics which decay over time. Consequently, it is worthwhile to identify factors affecting information decay. In Chapter I, the objectives of this study were discussed. They are restated: (1) determine if production worker performance has changed over time, (2) provide broad guidelines and recommendations for production type industries concerning performance evaluation of employees during training, (3) find evidence that standards and environmental factors for production workers can be linked and provide information to the firm for budgeting and planning purposes, and (4) provide a basis for further research associated with identifying variables related to improving worker …

An Examination Of The Psychometric Properties Of Some Commonly Researched Individual Differences, Job, And Organizational Variables In Two Cultures, Harry J. Martin, Uma Sekaran

Management And Labor Relations

This study examines the transferability and applicability of selected measures of individual differences, job, and organizational climate factors across two cultures. Questionnaires were administered to a sample of 267 white-collar bank employees in the U.S. and 307 bank employees in India. The individual difference dimensions examined were four manifest needs, sense of competence, and locus of control. The job factors included variety, autonomy, identity, and feedback. The organizational climate factors related to communication, stress, participation in decision making, and self-esteem from the workplace. The data were analyzed for internal consistency, dimensionality, and criterion-related validity. The results showed that the job …

This paper reports the result of an experiment using statistical research methodology to evaluate previous findings, identify new effects and focus on potential future research efforts to improve the control of casting surface roughness. The objective of developing a functional equation to predict casting surface roughness was achieved. A reliable and valid methodology for obtaining operational "surface imprints" of casting surface roughness was developed.

Attendance Control Techniques: Union Vs. Non-Union Differences In The Southeast United States, S E. Markham, Dow Scott

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

This research examines both the rate of absenteeism and the attendance control methods found in a sample of 423 union and non-union organizations located in the Southeast United States. These data indicate that absenteeism rates for union and non-union organizations are not significantly different. Methods of controlling absenteeism are reported for both union and non-union facilities. Implications for the control of absenteeism are discussed.
