From the very first, I wish the state that the title, "General Morphology and Physiology of the Urogenital System of the Opossum," is not entirely descriptive of the text which is to follow. However it is as nearly descriptive as I could hope to make it.

The genus Polygonum belongs to the family of plants, the Polygonaceae, which includes about forty genera and seven hundred and fifty species. About two hundred end seventy-five of these belong within Polygonum. Scientists have also found distinctly recognizable fossil Polygonums which date from prehistoric ages. Dr. F. H. Knowlton¹ of the U. S. National Museum has listed twelve species which have been found in fossil form. While studying collection of Colorado fossil plants in the Geological Tunes et Columbia College, Small discovered a remarkably distinct Polygonum belonging to the subgenus Persicaria.

Marchantia polymorphum L. grows commonly under moist conditions, in ravines or along the sides of ditches, banks of streams, and in other similar places. It can be found in what appear to be quite dry situations, though it is more nearly correct to state that it can exist through more or less prolonged dry periods. It grows actively only when conditions are comparatively moist. Marchantia reaches its best development on damp burnt-over wooded places. In the present work it has been my purpose to present a descriptive list of laboratory exercises in botany which is predictable and useable under the existing conditions of the average small high school of western Kansas. To be more specific these exercises may be used by a teacher without special training in botany, in a crowded curriculum, and with little laboratory equipment. Most of the apparatus needed may be improvised by the pupil, and the plants called for are common in any community in the western half of Kansas.

In arranging this thesis an attempt has been made to show that by virtue of its embryology, anatomy and histology, the spleen is the better enabled to carry out its alleged functions. The discussion here presented is confined to a story of the functions of the mammalian spleen alone. The similarities in the reactions of the spleen in the various mammalia is quite evident. Experimentation and observations were carried out on the lower mammalia while only the reactions of the splenectomized humans could be observed.

In 1.848 Leszczyc-Suminski reported the appearance of sporophyte tissue element in a fern gametophyte. He observed tracheids near the apical notch of a prothallium of Pteris sulcata L. Wigand (1849) described an outgrowth from the apical notch of a fern prothallium. This was no doubt the development of an apogamous embryo. However, due to the uncertainty regarding the purity of some of his cultures, this development cannot be referred to any particular fern.

The Clover Leaf Weevil, Hypera punctata (Fabr.),* is a foreign pest introduced from Europe into New York, which first became noticeable in 1881. The insect has rapidly spread westward reaching Utah at least by 1912. Since this time several out-breaks have occured. In 1927 the injury to alfalfa, Medicago sativa, was severe in limited areas in Hooper, Weber County, and in 1927 and 1928 the infestation was very pronounced in certain parts of Salt Lake City.
