The Life And Philosophy Of Nicholai Lenin, Francis L. Mcevoy Jun 1937

The Life And Philosophy Of Nicholai Lenin, Francis L. Mcevoy

Bachelors’ Theses

The subject of Communism and the advocates of Communism is very timely at the present time. This movement is attempting to gain a foothold in various countries throughout the world. It strikes at a time when a country is at its lowest ebb, and many countries, now feeling the full dread effects of the World War, have laid themselves open to Communist ideas.

A Specific Study Of The Magna Charta Of King John, Alexander Lakes May 1937

A Specific Study Of The Magna Charta Of King John, Alexander Lakes

Bachelors’ Theses

This is far from being the first treatise on the Magna Charta. Many books have been written and much research work has been done to gather new data concerning the essence of that immortal document. And still the work regarding its birth and survival goes on. It was only recently that the English people were shocked, out of their usual complacency by the press announcement of the proposed sale of the meadow called Runnymede on the Thames near Staines. The sacredness of that tract of land was not realized until it was brought to the sense of honor of the …

Romanism, Calvinism, And Lutheranism On The Authority Of Scripture, F. E. Mayer Apr 1937

Romanism, Calvinism, And Lutheranism On The Authority Of Scripture, F. E. Mayer

Concordia Theological Monthly

The desire for a large Pan-Protestant union has endeavored to minimize the theological differences between Lutheranism and Calvinism. True, Luther and Calvin had many things in common, e.g., the rejection of Pelagianism and the Roman hierarchical system. But only too often the divergent conceptions of sin and grace, of faith and works, of atonement and justification, of repentance and sanctification, are viewed only as minor differences.

A Philosophical Delineation Of Some Of The Juridical, Political, And Economic Problems Arising During The Period Of Discovery And Nationalization, Daniel Shea Apr 1937

A Philosophical Delineation Of Some Of The Juridical, Political, And Economic Problems Arising During The Period Of Discovery And Nationalization, Daniel Shea

Bachelors’ Theses

We find in Tennyson's Ulysses a prototype of the typical adventurous man of that glorious Spain of the Age of Discovery: the Spain from whose shores, not only the stern and practical Columbus set sail, but also the romantic and adventurous Spain of Ponce de Leon whose search for the elusive Fountain of Youth culminated in the discovery and exploration of the hitherto unknown Florida which now, by some strange paradox, has become the fountain of youth for modern business worried de Leons. Spain indeed, during her Golden Age, did not "rust unburnished not to shine in use". Her ships …

A Discussion Of The Rogue Novel La Celestina With Special Reference To The Social Conditions Of The Time, Blanche Todes

Bachelors’ Theses

Because the picaresque novel is so intimately connected with the Spanish people, and so clearly expresses their spirit, I have always been extremely interested in this genre. Therefore, I have written on the Celestina because it is the forerunner of this genre and is one of the most worth while and important works in Spanish literature.

A Basic French Vocabulary, Charlotte F. Kupper Mar 1937

A Basic French Vocabulary, Charlotte F. Kupper

Bachelors’ Theses

In 1931 a committee was appointed by the French section of the Association of Modern Language Teachers of the Central West and South to undertake the task of securing a basic French vocabulary list which was to be designed to meet the teaching needs of American schools and which, it was hoped, would become basic for the construction of elementary textbooks and of tests and for the editing of graded reading texts. The list, containing 2753 items, was finally submitted as "A Basic French Vocabulary" - suggested as basic for the two-year course in high schools and for the first …

The Neutrality Legislation Of The United States In 1935-1936, Ralph Edward Houseman Jan 1937

The Neutrality Legislation Of The United States In 1935-1936, Ralph Edward Houseman

Bachelors’ Theses

The depression of 1929, the refusal of the nations to pay their war debts, and the revelations of the Nye investigating committee have brought most Americans to a thumping realization that war. its causes and cures, is more than a matter of kahki shirts, bursting bombs, and eloquent catch phrases. In fact, so patent is this realisation that no one but a most intrepid citizen or a junior high school civics teacher would dare to utter the words "To make the world sate for democracy" with anything but a sneer. If, as Charles Beard says, "In the course of forty …

The Alabama Claims, Chester John Niebler Jan 1937

The Alabama Claims, Chester John Niebler

Bachelors’ Theses

It is now almost three-quarters of a century since the nation was bathed in the blood of its youth during the Civil War. To the casual observer the contest. was wholly a domestic one, with domestic interests and currents only. To the slight reader, the nation was placed above the individual states, the South was crushed, Slavery was abolished by force and law, and the Confederacy had to be reconstructed. These were primarily the problems of the United States during the period.

The Christian Minister Protagonist Of Social Justice, Ellsworth N. Escott Jan 1937

The Christian Minister Protagonist Of Social Justice, Ellsworth N. Escott

Honors Papers

The thesis to be elaborated in this paper is that the Christian minister has a responsibility of profound import in the great common enterprise of achieving social justice. By social justice we mean the greatest possible realization by the individual and by society of abundance of life by way of the most complete practical coordination of individual attitudes, social relationships, economic arrangements and ethical motives. In the development of this thesis we shall be under necessity of employing a number of technical terms, such as democracy, dictatorship, capitalism, profit economy, acquisitive society, economic imperialism, which are in current use. We …
