Events Which Led To The Conquest Of Ethiopia By Italy, Raymond Adam Mazalewski Apr 1938

Events Which Led To The Conquest Of Ethiopia By Italy, Raymond Adam Mazalewski

Bachelors’ Theses

It is a tremendous task trying to read through all the matter which has been published on the Italo-Ethiopian conflict. One must be careful in his reading so that he will be able to separate the material into the different catagories. Because the available information is tinged with onesided view points, fanatical view points, not to mention propaganda from both sides. As the result, it becomes difficult at times to discriminate between bias and true facts.

Social Aspects Of The Civil War, Elizabeth L. Ryan Mar 1938

Social Aspects Of The Civil War, Elizabeth L. Ryan

Bachelors’ Theses

In this thesis it has been the intention of the author to trace the non-military aspects of the Civil lar in the United States. Perhaps the cause underlying all immediate cause, was a social one, brought about by two entirely different social structures under the same Constitution. When one side tried to break away and aet up its own government, a war resulted which saw each aide fighting with faith in its own cause. The result was a South, torn of ancient tradition&, and broken economically, socially, and politically. The struggle to build up a new civilization from the ruins …

Napoleon's Real "Waterloo" Was Moscow, Inez Fuller Feb 1938

Napoleon's Real "Waterloo" Was Moscow, Inez Fuller

Bachelors’ Theses

To begin with, before setting out upon a particular scholarly duty, it is well to clarify, in as concrete a manner as it is possible the problem confronting one, and the objective which is to be the desired end of the re search. Applying this :principle to the present work the problem to be solved is that of the real "Waterloo" in Napoleon's career.

General John J. Pershing And America's Part In The World War In Episode Of Efficient Effort For A Mistaken Cause, Marvin Bell Jan 1938

General John J. Pershing And America's Part In The World War In Episode Of Efficient Effort For A Mistaken Cause, Marvin Bell

Bachelors’ Theses

General John J. Pershing was chosen to command the American Expeditionary Force in Europe by President Wilson, an honor gained not only by his record of achievement, but also for his extreme loyalty to Government authority under hampering circumstances. Pershing was known as one of the coolest men under fire and possessed a character which compelled men not only to die, but to work, grumbling perhaps but respecting him.

Although the far to end war ended November 11, 1918, the world has never been free of war since. War ravaged Ireland and Russia for years after the World War. Revolutions …

The Euripidean Sources Of Racine's Tragedies, Lee Charles Econom Jan 1938

The Euripidean Sources Of Racine's Tragedies, Lee Charles Econom

Bachelors’ Theses

Euripides, the youngest of the tragic poets, was born in 485 B.C. and died in 406. The span of his life coincides with the most triumphant period of Athenian history. His father was names Mnesarchides, his mother Kleito. They were apparently of wealth, for Euripides had considerable property and was "Proxenum" or consul of Magnesia. Another indication of wealth is the fact that Euripides was the possessor of a library, something especially rare then.

The Chivalric Ideal In The Work Of Sir Walter Scott, Margaret E. Remy Jan 1938

The Chivalric Ideal In The Work Of Sir Walter Scott, Margaret E. Remy

Graduate Thesis Collection

During the school year of 1936-1937 I became intensely interested in the study of the Chivalry as brought out in Dr. Harrison's graduate course on The Arthurian Legend.  I was curious to know how Sir Walter Scott, with some of whose novels and poems I was acquainted, had used the chivalric ideal in his work.  Out of that curiosity grew the desire to study further the chivalric ideal and its relation to Scott.  The result of my study of the past year is the survey following.

Prohibition In Kansas From 1861-1881, Edna Pearl Elliott Jan 1938

Prohibition In Kansas From 1861-1881, Edna Pearl Elliott

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

During the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1804, the liquor problem first entered Kansas, when two men were punished for drunkenness while on duty. From 1804 to 1848 little is to be found in records that gives any information on this question but from 1848 to 1861 it was a live issue. Laws were enacted prohibiting the sale of intoxicating beverages to the Indians, the Dram-shop Law of 1855 was passed, the Wyandotte Constitutional Convention was held, and Kansas was admitted as a state January 29, 1861, without a liquor control law in her Constitution. The demand for better liquor …
