Pilgrims Of Hope, Victor Bartling Jan 1939

Pilgrims Of Hope, Victor Bartling

Concordia Theological Monthly

The Address to the Pilgrims. "Peter, the apostle of Jesus Christ," etc., 1 Pet.1:1, 2; that means, Jesus through His duly commissioned servant writes this letter to Christians, who have their true home in heaven and so are living as aliens on earth, specifically to Christians of Asia Minor who most probably have received the Gospel, either directly or indirectly, through the Apostle Paul. They live not in an integrated, visible commonwealth as the people of God but are scattered, now here, now there, among a heathen populace.

A Course In Lutheran Theology, Th. Engelder Jul 1938

A Course In Lutheran Theology, Th. Engelder

Concordia Theological Monthly

We have not exhausted the subject of sola gratia as treated by Luther in De Servo Arbitrio. There is the all-important matter of the sinner's justification before God. And the sola gratia is the heart of the doctrine of justification. That is the blessed truth which comforts the heart of the despairing sinner. That is the glorious truth which the minister of the Gospel needs to study and restudy, to study every day of his life.

A General Analysis Of The Crusades, Kenneth G. Mcqueen

Bachelors’ Theses

The object or purpose of this thesis is to give a general analysis of the Crusades, taken as a whole movement. From the outset, we are endeavoring to trace the underlying causes which set the great conflict in motion. Our end object should answer the question — Were the motives for the Crusades really based on true religious principles, or were they motivated by private and selfish interests?

A Course In Lutheran Theology, Th. Engelder

Concordia Theological Monthly

The subject of our first study in De Servo Arbitrio was the sola Scriptura. The second deals with the sola gratia. De Servo Arbitrio is a powerful exposition of the fundamental truth that we owe our salvation exclusively to the grace of God, in no wise and in no degree to our own power and activity.
