The Communicational Function Of Wearing Apparel For Lady Missionaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Alice W. Buehner Jan 1982

The Communicational Function Of Wearing Apparel For Lady Missionaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Alice W. Buehner

Theses and Dissertations

Because the need exists for a professional image among lady missionaries, this thesis will define what knowledge concerning communication of clothing is necessary in order to create a desirable image of professionalism. The term "professional" is derived from available research describing the most appropriate attire for women business executives. In lieu of an experimental study by this author, the interpretation of the professional look is supported by Molloy's extensive research on women's wearing apparel. His research shows that beyond a doubt, the skirted suit and blouse give women "a look of authority and a sense of presence in business." In …

The Use Of The Blueprinting Process On Fiber, Lisa D. Larson Jan 1980

The Use Of The Blueprinting Process On Fiber, Lisa D. Larson

Masters Theses

This thesis is a summary of what one student has done with the process of blueprinting as applied to fiber. Persons interested in the dyeing or painting of warps for weaving may benefit in reading this paper as it introduces another facet of warp application.

The blueprinting process used is the same technique engineers use to reproduce plans and drawings. It is a nonsilver photographic technique that makes use of ferric salts which, when mixed with certain other chemicals and exposed to ultraviolet light, form a colored byproduct.

The research was begun with the study of the application of the …

William Caxton—The Beginning Of Printing In England, Antje B. Lemke

The Courier

The year 1977 marked the five-hundredth anniversary of the first book printed in England, William Caxton's edition of Dictes and Sayings of Philosophers, in his own English translation, an event which was celebrated in many parts of the English-speaking world. Two of the rarest fifteenth-century items in Special Collections at Syracuse University are from Caxton's press: Caxton's own translation of Virgil's The Boke of Eneydos (Aeneid), printed about 1490, and an English translation of Cicero's essays, "De Senectude" and "De Amicitia" in one volume (1481).

Caxton had a sense of the importance of print which deserves attention today, as our …

Preaching With Audio-Visuals, Ervin K. Thomsen Jan 1977

Preaching With Audio-Visuals, Ervin K. Thomsen

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

The increasing usage of audio-visuals in modern communication has brought about an increase in communication efficiency, an efficiency that is sometimes lacking in sermons. Audio-visuals can be viewed by the Christian church as either legitimate or illegitimate means of communication in preaching. If the church accepts these media as genuine and valid vehicles of communication of its message, it must then discover ways of employing audio-visuals effectively and responsibly in preaching.

Methods

For the development of guidelines for the utilization of audio-visuals in preaching, data and information from the following areas have been studied and surveyed: (1) Scriptural data …
