Women's Studies Quarterly

The reports in this issue on the finances of the First NWSA Convention and on NWSA's Project to Improve Service Learning in Women's Studies might serve as Fall reports from the National Office.

Both are about NWSA activities derived from our broad definition of women's studies; both announce long-awaited good news of what we hope will be the first of many successful conventions and projects that will bring women's studies practitioners together to share the work of transforming curriculum and educational institutions.

A Conceptual Model Of Seventh-Day Adventist Organization For The Local Church, Trevor J. Delafield Jan 1978

A Conceptual Model Of Seventh-Day Adventist Organization For The Local Church, Trevor J. Delafield

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

In order for the Seventh-day Adventist church to accomplish fully its mission, the local church must be organized effectively to produce the results required by its mission. For this purpose, a conceptual model may be helpful. Until the present, no such model had been developed. The constant appearance of new techniques and processes in management call for development of instruments for evaluation by the church, and have at the same time raised the discipline to new heights of respectability. The question of the theology of the church is under study as never before. At least one Seventh-day Adventist theologian …

The Development And Evaluation Of A Program For Bible Evangelism To Be Used By Laymen Employing Small-Group Methods As A Basic Format, Johnny Durant Johnson Jan 1977

The Development And Evaluation Of A Program For Bible Evangelism To Be Used By Laymen Employing Small-Group Methods As A Basic Format, Johnny Durant Johnson

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Theologically in the Old and New Testaments the laity or "God's own people" are commissioned with the responsibility of communicating the gospel to the world in word and life. However, the contemporary Christian church finds itself under growing criticism for its failure to fulfill this commission. Although the gospel of Jesus Christ offers solutions to man's inmost needs an increasing number of congregations seem unable to meaningfully promulgate their message. This study contends that a chief weakness is the lack of genuine Christian life and fellowship within the churches.

What approach or means can be taken to encourage and stimulate …

Promoting Church Support Through Giving, Silvanus Ifechukwu Anuligo

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Through the experiences of the writer as a local church treasurer for seven years in the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Nigeria, he became aware that this church does not have viable finances at the local church level, the local field level, and at the union field level. The purpose of this project was therefore to survey the patterns of giving, particularly tithing, as practiced in the SDA Church in Nigeria, in order to discover possible weaknesses, and to find ways of overcoming such weaknesses.

Method

The project was conducted by means of three different types of questionnaires. The first …

A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean May 1974

A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The Evangelical Methodist Church has demonstrated from its inception in 1946 an awareness that the education of her "children'' was important. Through affiliation with selected institutions of higher education, through a continuing interest in quality Sunday School curriculum, and an awareness of the important role of the Christian home the denomination has evidenced concern for a qualifying Christian Education ministry. Her purpose for existence as a denomination would be defeated if she fails to teach the basic principles concerning man's relationship with God. It is time for the Evangelical Methodist Church to take vigorous steps to develop her potential in …

A History Of Brigham Young College, Logan, Utah, Arnold K. Garr

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Before Brigham Young College was founded in 1877, a variety of schools existed in Utah. The Mormons at first, and later the Protestants and Catholics made significant contributions to education in the territory.

Education has always played an important role in the philosophy of the Mormon church. In the early days of church history, the Mormons founded schools in the places they settled. This policy continued when they settled in Utah.
