The Short Stories Of MáRio De Andrade, Gerald Glen Curtis Nov 1971

The Short Stories Of MáRio De Andrade, Gerald Glen Curtis

American Studies ETDs

In spite of much critical material about other aspects of Mario's literary production, little has heretofore appeared in regard to his short stories.

The man and the artist in Mário are intimately related, a proper appreciation of the latter depending upon understanding the former. Mario was outstanding for his love for mankind, his exuberance for life, his concept of happiness. Theology-Philosophy-Poetry: Toward A Synopsis, Erwin L. Lueker Jul 1971

Theology-Philosophy-Poetry: Toward A Synopsis, Erwin L. Lueker

Concordia Theological Monthly

From his background as professor of systematic theology, as well as that of his deep interest in philosophy and poetry and his writing in these fields over many years, the author sketches his impressions of the nature of the relationship between theology, philosophy, and poetry and indicates the current tendency toward a synopsis. The relationship between literature (especially poetry) and philosophy and theology is receiving increasing attention from scholars in all three areas. It is the author's conviction that the sensitivity of poets often makes them pioneers in recognizing new situations and impending changes and that some of the outstanding …

Richard Taverner (1505?--1575) And The English Reformation, James Herbert Pragman May 1971

Richard Taverner (1505?--1575) And The English Reformation, James Herbert Pragman

Doctor of Theology Dissertation

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate and describe the life and work of Richard Taverner so that an assessment of his contribution to the English Reformation could be made.

A secondary purpose lies behind this study; actually, this secondary purpose provided the initial impetus for this study. Lutherans have been especially interested in Richard Taverner, because he translated the Augsburg Confession and its Apology into English for the first time in 1536. However, Lutherans did not really know Taverner, and historical curiosity suggested that a fuller knowledge of the man ought to be gained. The secondary purpose …

The Relationship Of Amos To The Cult, Alfred John Johnson May 1971

The Relationship Of Amos To The Cult, Alfred John Johnson

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This thesis will examine the prophecy of Amos and attempt to show that Amos was not inimical toward the cult. Through an investigation of the background and vocation of Amos it will be shown that he did not live a life of isolation, but that he had frequent intercourse with his countrymen. Through an examination of the speech forms used by Amos, it will be shown that he had a broad acquaintance with the literary arts and skills of his culture and an intimate knowledge of the cultic system of the religion of Israel.
