Compositional Modes Of Eduardo Barrios' Los Hombres Del Hombre With An Appended Bibliography Of His Uncollected Prose., Joel Casey Hancock
Compositional Modes Of Eduardo Barrios' Los Hombres Del Hombre With An Appended Bibliography Of His Uncollected Prose., Joel Casey Hancock
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
Eduardo Barrios experimented at various stages in his career with the diary form as a basis of his fictions. This narrative frame, utilizing the language of speech, provided him with a form within which he could explore the aspects of human experience and personality that most interested him. The theme of jealousy, which had occurred in earlier works, comes to be the central theme of the novel Los hombres del hombre and, through the inherent intimacy of the diary form, generates the self-scrutiny of the protagonist. The confessional form also allows Barrios ample range to explore his hero--through the device …

L'Art De La Description Et Du Portrait Chez Manette Salomon Des FrèRes Goncourt., Barbara Joan Goodman
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
The death of Honoré de Balzac in 1850 left a void in the production of masterpieces of the French novel. During the next decade, the lack of a dominant literary school, with precise rules, afforded to a great variety of authors a period of experimentation toward the establishment of a new direction for the novel.
The cooperative creation of Jules and Edmond de Goncourt emerged from this indecisive period. Throughout the ten years, the two brothers dabbled in various media of expression--painting, history, art criticism, drama-but their primary importance resides in their innovations in the novel. Manette Salomon, published in …
Fictional Manifestations Of Multiple Personality In Selected Works Of Miguel De Unamuno, Jerry L. Benbow
Fictional Manifestations Of Multiple Personality In Selected Works Of Miguel De Unamuno, Jerry L. Benbow
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
This study, which grew out of an interest in the recurrent theme of multiple personality in the prose of Miguel de Unamuno, first attempts to define multiple personality in the scientific fields of psychology and psychiatry, subsequently examines depictions of multiple personality in world literature, and finally studies in depth the manifestations of the phenomenon in selected works of Unamuno. Multiple personality in psychology and psychiatry is defined beginning with an examination of the behavioristic, mechanistic-adjustive, and holistic-dynamic approaches to personality theory. Attention is then given to the contributions of Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, and Alfred Adler to personality theory. …

El Surrealismo Y Cuatro Poetas De La GeneracióN De 1927, Carlos Marcial De Onís
El Surrealismo Y Cuatro Poetas De La GeneracióN De 1927, Carlos Marcial De Onís
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs

A Survey Of The Sources Of Historical Data And Materials Available For Use By Teacher And Pupils In The Study Of Northwest History At Junior High School Level, John Clark Malone
Graduate Student Research Papers
Were there sufficient sources of historical data and materials relating to Northwest History available for use in Central Washington and how much of this data and material was of a reading and interest level that could be used by junior high school pupils? Where were these sources and were there guides that could be used to locate them? It became the purpose of this study to make a survey of the sources of historical data and materials in Central Washington and to select them on the basis of interest, authenticity, usefulness, and availability and to arrange the information in the …

Mark Jefferson: Geographer, Geoffrey J. Martin
Mark Jefferson: Geographer, Geoffrey J. Martin
University Archives Book Collection
The study of the life and works of Mark Jefferson, one of the most scholarly geographers ever to grace the U.S. scene, is an attempt to fill, in part, the void in the literature of geographers' lives and thoughts and contribute to an understanding of the geography of American geographers.
His influence on the development of this professional field in the first half of the present century was critical. As professor of geography at the Michigan State Normal College (1901-39), he schooled future generations of teachers in the subject matter of geography, influenced geographic thinking by his numerous writings and …

Mathieu Bidar's Hippolyte: A Critical Edition, Evyenia L. Triandafilidis
Mathieu Bidar's Hippolyte: A Critical Edition, Evyenia L. Triandafilidis
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
The Hippolyte of Mathieu Bidar has nos been reprinted since the original edition of 1675, nor has there been a modern critical edition. The desire to do a critical edition of this tragedy was prompted by the prevalence of the theme of Phaedra and Hippolytus, which has been presented repeatedly on the French stage, and because of the editor’s interest in the role that the Greek tradition played in the French classicalism of the seventeenth century. Copies of Bidar’s Hippolyte are rare, since only three are known to be extant. The manuscript used is a copy of the original edition, …

Student Work
The events of George Santayana*s life provide a valuable introduction to any study of his works. Though it cannot fceally be said that his life was filled with the sort of excitement or intrigue which makes for suspenseful biography, his life was one of steady productivity and ever increasing fame, first as poet, then as philosopher, essayist, critic, and novelist.

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland
A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland
Theses and Dissertations
Previous studies have indicated that the moral development of the child may follow a "developmental" process. That is, the child progresses through an invariant series of stages, each characterized by certain modes of thought. As the child passes from one stage to another, he integrates the old stage into the new one. Kohlberg proposed a hierarchy of six stages through which the child would progress on his way to moral maturity. His hypothesis has been supported by empirical evidence.
Research findings have indicated that the Mormon culture appeared to be different in values and moral behavior than other United States …
